Delphi workers who took buyout OK to get tax rebates
Thursday, February 28, 2008
Delphi Corp. workers who accepted lump-sum and buyout payments will still be eligible to receive tax rebates in the recently passed economic stimulus package, U.S. Rep. Mike Turner's office said.
IRS staff members "verified that Delphi employees and others who did not qualify for a stimulus payment based on the 2007 taxes may qualify for a stimulus payment based on 2008 taxes after their taxes are filed in 2009," Turner's office announced Wednesday, Feb. 27.

Those accepting buyouts in 2008 will not be penalized and will be eligible for stimulus package rebates, his office said.
Turner also said that he has requested that the IRS "publish instructions that will help these workers access this rebate when it becomes available to them."
