DAYTON — Nanotek Instruments Inc. will open a nanotechnology research and development center, creating 77 jobs in the process, the company and Dayton government said.
"Dayton is the right place to be for materials research," said Bor Jang, Nanotek owner.

The new center will be at 1240 McCook Ave., with the company planning to renovate 10,000 square feet of space and add 77 full-time positions to a staff of five full-time and five part-time employees, it was announced Thursday, April 24.
Jang — also dean of Wright State University's College of Engineering and Computer Science — said he intends to hire new employees in two to three years. "That number — 77 (employees) — I hope will be achieved in the next five years or so," he said.
The company is leaving the Entrepreneurs Center at 714 E. Monument Ave.
Nanotek Instruments focuses on research, development and commercialization of low-cost nano-materials. Nanotechnology involves creating new materials from microscopic bits of matter just a few atoms in size.
"We do have a core now," Jang said. "There are many, many good things happening in Dayton area, in the nanotech area."
He pointed to the National Composite Center, Wright State, the University of Dayton Research Institute and the Air Force Research Laboratory, among other local resources, like the Dayton Engineers Club.
Said Jang, "I think we have the largest number of materials scientists in the United States, maybe even the largest one in the world."
Jang brought the two-employee firm to Dayton from North Dakota when he was named dean in May 2005.
Dayton's grant for the company consists of $75,000 from
Montgomery County's Economic Development/Government Equity
fund and $25,000 from the city's own development fund.
