OAKWOOD — Anne Mantia, former owner of Dominic's restaurant, and two other businesswomen will sell the Italian restaurant's trademark garlic dressing through grocery stores.
Mantia, along with partners Betty Greenwood and Susie McLaughlin, announced the launch of the packaged dressing Thursday, May 1, at Dorothy Lane Market, 2710 Far Hills Ave.
Extras
The dressing will be marketed under the Anna Mantia brand name.
While Dorothy Lane Market is the first retailer to carry the dressing, the partners of Dominic's Foods of Dayton want to sell it through other grocers and eventually establish it as a national brand, said Susie McLaughlin, business manager.
In October, Mantia closed the popular Italian restaurant at 1066 S. Main St. and sold the property to Miami Valley Hospital.
Dominic's was opened by Dominic Mantia and his wife Sue in March of 1957. His son, Dick, took over the business after the elder Mantia passed away and continued to operate the restaurant with his cousin, Sonny Mantia. In 2002, after Dick Mantia died, his wife, Anne Mantia, became Dominic's sole proprietor.

I am anxious to try this dressing they have packaged. I sure hope it is the real thing! I miss Dominics from the years past when they had the piano bar and things were better back then. Food was great and it was a nice crowd on Friday nights. I spent many a Friday night in there sitting at the piano bar listening and watchng “The Literside” duo. Anyone else remember them?

Dick Mantia must be turning over in his grave. After his death, the restaurant went downhill so fast it was pathetic. Anne should be ashamed of herself for allowing such a fine place to deteriorate as it did. I will try the dressing, but even that changed after Dick died. I am hoping for the best though, cause that dressing was the bomb!

We have eaten at Dominics since it was just the house—before the big building was built. It was unique food and I, too, loved the chicken livers over spaghetti. Despite the decline in recent years, it was a staple in Dayton. Things change, but I’m glad to see I can still get the dressing.

No big loss. The last time I was there the mens restroom was filthy and smelled terrible. The food was not that good either. I wouldn’t touch the salad dressing they are selling.

When is Duke Morris of his former Duke’s Golden Ox restaurant, just down the street from Dominic’s, going to start selling his Lebanese salad dressing and seasoning? In my opinion, Duke’s Lebanese Salad rivaled Dominic’s garlic salad. Both were absolutely, positively, delicious!!! I still have a little of Duke’s salad seasoning left that he was selling just before he closed. I treat it like gold and only use on very special occasions. Bob in Minneapolis

No great loss. The food and service went down the drain. Maybe if they would have serviced better food and treated customers better, they would still be around. I think restaurants forget how many choices we have. This is what happens.
