Tuesday, May 27, 2008
MORAINE — The local General Motors assembly plant will return to full production next Monday, a plant spokeswoman said Tuesday, May 27.
"We've just announced that effective Monday, June 2, 2008, all shifts of production will be running at Moraine Assembly," said Jessica Peck, the spokeswoman. "That means that all second-shift employees should report back to work on Monday, June 2. And all first- and third-shift employees should report to work at this time."

The announcement comes less than a week after United Auto Workers local unions in Michigan and New York approved a tentative agreement with American Axle & Manufacturing, ending a strike that started in those states Feb. 26. That strike cut off a supply of axles and other parts to the Moraine SUV assembly plant less than a week after the strike began. Some 30 other GM and allied plants across the nation were also affected.
Last week, the local GM plant was able to secure a supply of axles, enabling the plant to recall first-shift production workers May 19, just was UAW members were beginning to see the tentative agreement with American Axle.
With more than 2,000 hourly workers, the local GM plant makes Chevrolet TrailBlazers, GMC Envoys, Saab 9-7Xs and Isuzu Ascenders. The plant has two production shifts, as well as a third shift for maintenance, security and other employees.
