S&K store in Beavercreek to open in weeks

By Tim Tresslar

S&K Famous Brands, a chain of menswear stores, will open its store in The Greene within the next couple of weeks, a spokeswoman said on Friday, July 25.

The location will feature a new store design and merchandise mix that the parent of S&K Menswear has rolled out in a handful of other markets, said Mary Jo Steinmetz, advertising manager for Richmond, Va.-based company.

The design includes such features as recessed lighting and more floor space, Steinmetz said. Its inventory will include fewer suits and emphasize sportswear and business casual, she said.

The company has opened similar stores in Mobile, Ala., and suburban Atlanta and will open a third in Savannah, Ga., later this month.

Introduction of the new stores is part of a wider plan announced July 25 to increase shareholder returns. The strategy includes eliminating 50 jobs at the company's headquarters, shifting some store locations and hiring a turnaround consultant.

S&K operates 219 stores in 26 states.

Plans call for the retailer to have official opening ceremonies for the Greene County store during Labor Day weekend.
