HARRISON TWP., Montgomery County — Rex Stores Corp., a specialty retailer and alternative-energy investment company, said Tuesday, Sept. 9, that its second-quarter profits shrank while sales climbed compared to a year ago.

For the quarter ended July 31, Rex reported net income of $1.2 million, or 11 cents per share, compared with net income of $5.8 million, or 48 cents per share, during the year-ago quarter. Total sales and revenue for the quarter was $67.4 million, versus $47.9 million a year ago.

Company executives will discuss the second-quarter performance with financial analysts during a conference call slated for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9.

The company has interests in four ethanol entities and operates 110 retail stores. Contact this reporter at (937) 225-7317 or ttresslar@DaytonDailyNews.com.
