Reichard buys Pontiac GMC franchise

DAYTON — Reichard Buick Pontiac has purchased Moorman Pontiac GMC new-car franchise, co-owner Jeff Reichard said Wednesday, Oct. 1.
Reichard will take over the GMC and Pontiac franchise that had been at 400 E. Shoup Mill Road, bringing about 10 employees to its dealership at 161 Salem Ave. and expanding Reichard's offering of vehicles, Reichard said.
Reichard requests that Moorman customers bring their vehicles to Reichard's dealership for service, maintenance and warranty work. Reichard Buick Pontiac can be reached at (937) 224-8541.
The franchise purchase dovetails with what Reichard called General Motors Corp.'s "channeling strategy" — bringing together Buick, Pontiac and GMC nameplates under single dealership umbrellas. It's also good business, Reichard believes, allowing the dealership to offer the popular Pontiac Vibe and G-6 and Buick Enclave models, as well as popular GMC products such as the GMC Acadia crossover, all on one lot.
"The GM product is substantial and wide-ranging, from crossovers, to mid-size pickups and sports utilities," Reichard said.
John Moorman noted that his dealership has operated for 72 years, agreeing that the sale marks the end of an era. He declined further comment.
Reichard said GM's "exceptional products" are keeping his business fairly steady.
"Sales for us have dropped slightly but have held their own pretty good," Reichard said.
He declined to disclose terms of the sale.
Reichard has operated at 161 Salem since 1949.
