Steve Wyatt, finance professor and chairman at Miami University, said greater control of costs will be a business necessity as the downturn in the economy continues.
Entrepreneurs should be ready for more economic damage before the picture improves, he said.
"Some businesses should be expanding right now," he said. "It all depends on your balance sheet."
Companies that provide what Wyatt called "absolute necessities," as well as those which work in financial restructuring and bankruptcies, may be the winners in this economy, he said. Others will fare less well.
Said Wyatt, "In the end, we will come out of this."
