LexisNexis parent identifies 21 local cuts

MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County — Reed Elsevier, owner of LexisNexis, is continuing with cuts in the United States, including 21 positions at the local LexisNexis campus.
"We have identified areas of further realignment that will result in position eliminations in the U.S., effective Oct. 15," said an internal e-mail from Mark Popolano, Reed Elsevier chief technology officer, to Reed Elsevier Technology Services colleagues. "These decisions are never easy, and we want to acknowledge the years of service and many contributions of the employees whose positions are impacted by this realignment."
The e-mail does not identify the number or location of the job eliminations. When asked about the cuts Friday, Oct. 24, LexisNexis released a statement saying: "Due to a corporate restructuring, Reed Elsevier Technology Services — the IT division of Reed Elsevier — announced ... that it will phase out 21 positions at the Dayton campus. Affected employees will be provided with severance benefits and career transition assistance through an outplacement service."
In May, a Reed Elsevier spokesman said about 320 jobs will be moved from Lexis-Nexis' Miami Twp. campus by early 2009. The same spokesman, David Ruth, also said the Ohio 741 campus remains a key part of the company, housing global operations for both Reed and LexisNexis.
"We're definitely committed to the Dayton area, and we don't have any plans to close down that facility, for sure," Ruth said at the time.
