MIAMISBURG — Evenflo Co. Inc., a privately held manufacturer of infant and juvenile products including car seats and baby bottles, said it is eliminating 45 salaried jobs in Ohio because of the "challenging business environment."
The company notified the city of Miamisburg on Friday, Nov. 14, that 38 of those jobs are to be eliminated in Miamisburg, city spokesman Gary Giles said Monday.
The cutbacks also include customer-service employees at Evenflo's operation in Piqua, the company said. There were no reductions in the production, warehousing or distribution operations at Piqua, according to Evenflo.
"In this challenging business environment, Evenflo is increasing its efforts to expand the company's sales by focusing on innovative products that offer the best value and performance benefits to moms," Rob Matteucci, Evenflo's chief executive officer, said in a prepared statement.
Evenflo employs about 200 people at its corporate headquarters at 225 Byers Rd. in Miamisburg, Giles said. That was formerly the headquarters of Huffy Corp., the bicycle and sporting goods manufacturer.
Evenflo had occupied the space in May of this year, relocating from Vandalia. Company executives had hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 24 with city officials and Ohio Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher to officially celebrate the relocation.
Evenflo will maintain its manufacturing operation in Piqua, Matteucci said.
The company's products also include high chairs and strollers. Evenflo, founded in 1920, supplies its products to retailers including Toys "R" Us, Wal-Mart, Target and Kmart.
