Tim Tresslar: Green Building Council salutes Honda's Troy facility
Sunday, November 23, 2008
An American Honda Motor Co. facility in Troy has been recognized for its environmentally friendly features.
American Honda's Midwestern Consolidation Center earned a certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, the automaker said in a news release. The Miami County facility received the council's LEED-NC Gold certification.
The council also recognized Honda facilities in Gresham, Ore.; Torrance, Calif.; Greensboro, N.C.; and Longmont, Colo., the automaker said.
To get LEED certification, a building must incorporate such features as recycled materials, use of energy-efficient lighting with motion detectors and diversion of construction waste from landfills to recycling centers, Honda said.
The Troy facility, for example, has a mezzanine made of wood that has been certified as coming from sustainably managed forest land, the company said.

Rental-Purchase opens second store
East Town Plaza has added a tenant.
Premier Rental-Purchase has launched a store at 3926 Linden Ave., said Scott Kinnear, a franchisee for the Williamsburg, Va.-based retailer. An official opening for the new outlet was held Nov. 22.
Kinnear said he also owns and operates a store at 4633 Salem Ave., Trotwood.
He opened the Trotwood store in 2005 and the success of that store led him to add a second franchise store, he said.
