Feds: Local housing prices fell in 2008

Home prices in the Dayton area fell in 2008, a trend seen in neighboring cities and across the country, according to a federal index released Tuesday, Feb. 24.
In the Dayton metropolitan statistical area, home prices dropped more than 2.3 percent last year, according to fourth quarter figures from the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Based on price appreciation, Dayton ranked 155 out of 292 MSAs nationwide.
Between the third and fourth quarters of 2008, prices fell 0.6 percent, according to the agency's house price index, which includes data from home purchases and refinancing appraisals.
The Dayton MSA includes Greene, Montgomery, Miami and Preble counties.
In the Cincinnati-Middletown MSA, home prices dropped 1.87 percent in 2008 and fell nearly 0.2 percent between the third and fourth quarters, the agency reported.
The Federal Housing Finance Agency oversees the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp., Federal National Mortgage Association and 12 federal home loan banks.
