Thursday, April 02, 2009
COLUMBUS — Ohio needs more technology research and development along with greater access to broadband service, according to a survey of Ohio legislators by an advocacy organization that promotes the need for technology innovation.
All of the legislators surveyed responded "no" when asked whether they thought Ohio policies are keeping up with technology advancements, Technology for Ohio's Tomorrow said in a summary of its poll.
Almost 95 percent of those surveyed said they have used e-mail to communicate with the people they represent, the poll found. Two-thirds said they also use social networking Web sites including Facebook, MySpace and Twitter to reach constituents, Technology for Ohio's Tomorrow said Wednesday, April 1.
More than 25 percent of the Ohio General Assembly's members responded to the survey, the organization said. The 36 respondents represent districts across Ohio.
Sarah Briggs, founder and executive director of the Columbus-based nonprofit advocacy group, is a University of Dayton graduate and former Ohio House of Representatives legislative aide.
