RAINS MOVE IN, CANCEL ELDORA

ROSSBURG, OH (April 9) - Forecasted rain showers hit Eldora Speedway early afternoon as track crews were preparing for Saturday’s second leg of the Coca Cola Classic weekend. That moisture, combined with the already saturated grounds, was just too much to overcome; forcing USAC (United States Auto Club) officials to cancel the event for their AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series, along with the companion UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Modifieds and Eldora Stock Cars.

The show was to have been led off with the completion of Friday night’s fog cancelled show.

With Saturday’s cancellation, the Friday show is officially considered to be weathered out and all admission tickets and pit passes will be honored at face value at any event remaining on the 2011 Eldora Speedway schedule.

Eldora will concur with the USAC team about a possible make-up date.

BABCOCK TAKES STOCK A-MAIN BEFORE FOG HALTS BALANCE OF PROGRAM

ROSSBURG, OH (April 8) - No matter how much preparation is put into a race program, whether at the end of the facility or by the race teams, Mother Nature can change things in a hurry and rule supreme. She did just that Friday night as Eldora Speedway made a valiant attempt to get their 2011 season open.

Steady overnight rains and cool temperatures, combined with light mist falling throughout the afternoon stacked the odds. yet track and USAC (United States Auto Club) officials, along with the race teams fought valiantly, only to fall short when pea-like fog rolled in after the completion of the heats for the USAC Sprints and UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Modifieds. The companion Stock Cars were able to get their A-Main into the record books, with Jeff Babcock capturing that chase over Barney Craig, Kevin Gossard, John Phlipot, Jr. and Rob Trent.

Prior to that the USAC Sprint heats were gathered in by Blake Fitzpatrick, Levi Jones, Justin Grant and Matt Westfall. The four Modified heat winners were Jesse Bitterling, David Smith, Doug Adkins and Scott Orr. The Friday program (USAC and Modified B and A Mains) will be completed Saturday (April 9) immediately after the hot lap session at 6:00, after which the full Saturday chase will be contested.
