Dance fest focuses on imagination

OhioDance, Oberlin College and the Ohio Department of Education will host one in a national series of state events on the topic of imagination during the 2010 OhioDance Festival May 15-16.

“Imagination Conversation,” an initiative of the Lincoln Center Institute, will culminate in a 2011 summit.

Panelists for the dance festival session will include Oberlin faculty members in biology and neuroscience, emerging arts, environmental studies and politics, dance and theater.

Hosted by Oberlin, the festival will include master classes, performances, awards and scholarship presentations. For more information, go to www.ohiodance.org/festival.php.

Seed Theatre plants season at Kroc Center

The fledgling Seed Theatre Project has announced it will present its 2010-11 season at the new Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, 1000 N. Keowee St.

The season will include: “The Syringa Tree,” a play by Pamela Gien, Aug. 20-21; “Grey Gardens,” a musical by Scott Frankel, Michael Korie and Doug Wright,” Nov. 5-6; “Almost Maine,” by John Cariani, Feb. 11-12, 2010; “An Enemy of the People,” the Henrik Ibsen drama as adapted by Arthur Miller, April 15-16, 2010; and “Anyone Can Whistle,” a musical by Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents, June 10-11, 2011.

Seed executive director Adam J. Leigh said the missions of the theater and the Kroc Center “align perfectly. Both are ready to become catalysts for change.”
