FilmDayton Fest still adding entries

Tickets for the third annual FilmDayton Festival, set for May 20-22, will go on sale in April.

Single seats will be $7. Full-access passes to screenings, events and parties will be $75.

Films are still being added to a lineup that has several Dayton connections.

The musical drama “Beautiful Noise” (2009) was written, produced and directed by former area auto dealer Steve Tatone, now of Sarasota, Fla.

The family drama “Home Run Showdown” (2011) with a cast including Annabeth Gish and Barry Bostwick, was co-produced by former Daytonian Joe Gressis.

Karri O’Reilly of Dayton co-produced the horror entry “Husk” (2010), about crows, a wreck, a desolate cornfield and a light in the distance.

“Rockin’ The Wall” (2010) is Dayton resident Larry Schweikart’s documentary about how rock ‘n’ roll helped bring down the Berlin Wall.

Last year’s festival included a screening of the Oscar-nominated “Winter’s Bone” months before its wide release.

The 2011 festival, which has the theme “From Dayton/For Dayton,” boasts two new components.

A screenwriting conference at ThinkTV (Channel 16 in Dayton) will include presentations by National Public Radio’s Ira Glass and Emmy-winning producer Erik Bork.

A contest, in collaboration with the Encore Theatre Company, will seek original musical screenplays written exclusively for film.

Back for another round are: “Pitch it!”, an “American Idol”-style competition for presenting film ideas to a panel of experts; and “Screenless Screening” to promote the use of “sound pictures” and sound-rich documentaries, offered with WSYO-FM (91.3).

Screenings will take place at the Neon Movies, 130 E. Fifth St. For more information, or to register for workshops or conferences, go to www.filmdayton.com.
