Report: Bengals first to offer Vick

FOXSports.com writer Jay Glazer reported on Twitter this morning that the Bengals were the first to offer a contract to MIchael Vick.

Glazer’s Tweet:

“1st team to jump into the fray on vick and make an offer? sources tell foxsports.com the bengals offered him firm 2yr deal for about 2.3mil”

If true, is anyone surprised?

Can you imagine how much HBO’s suits would have salivated had Vick ended up reporting to training camp at Georgetown?

Alas, Vick ended up signing with Philadelphia — a 1-year deal for a reported $1.6 million with a club option for the second year at a hefty $5.2 million.

Be careful what you ask for.

I think its obvious now that more teams were interested in Vick than we heard about. I think every team was really interested, but know one wanted to keep it as low key as possible.

If this is true… crap. I’m really going to have to reassess my commitment to the Bengals. I’ve been a Bengal guy since the mid 70s, and stuck through the thin years (or the thin decade and a half). But now, I don’t know if I’m up for giving another second or another dime to this organization. This is unreal. I don’t even know what else to say… other than, if this is true, Mike Brown is a far bigger imbecile than I thought. Which is saying something.

Why would a great player like VICK want to sign with a bunch of bums like the Bungholers ? Get real Cincinnati!!!!!

No one should be surprised, the team is Bush league, has been since 1991. BTW (I’m a die hard, not some steelers fan). Of course Mikey tried to get Vick, he probably saw it as a way to put butts in seats, which by the way he is having a hard time doing, please keep not buying tix!

Everyone needs to step off their moral pedestal. This is a good FOOTBALL move for any team. They don’t give two SH*@S about anything but winning and I’m not complaining about that. One year from now this will look like a genius move by the Eagles.

Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid on the signing of Michael Vick: “I think that everyone has heard the news now that we have signed Michael Vick. I’m a believer that as long as people go through the right process, they deserve a second chance. Michael has done that. I’ve done a tremendous amount of homework on this, and I’ve followed his progress. He has some great people in his corner that he’s proven to that he’s on the right track in the commissioner [Roger Goodell] and [former NFL head coach] Tony Dungy who has spent a lot of time with Michael. Tony is a good friend of mine, and I’ve had a chance to visit with him and talk through some things. I’ve also had a chance to talk to Michael a few times here just to make sure that I know exactly where he’s at, and he’s at a good place. I’ve seen people close to me who have had second chances and taken advantage of those. It’s very important that people give them opportunities to prove that they can change, so we’re doing that with Michael. I’m very excited on the other side of that to have also a good football player. You’re talking about one of the top quarterbacks in the league when he was playing. He’s familiar with our offense having done it the last few years in Atlanta before he was incarcerated. I was able to talk to him a little bit about that, and he recalls some of things such as the terminology and so on. It’s a very exciting thing going on right now, and we feel very good about it. There won’t be a quarterback controversy. That’s not how it is going to go down here. We have to make sure he gets back into football shape. He’s been out of this thing for a couple of years now, so it’s important that he gets himself into football shape. He is suspended for this [preseason] game and the next game, so he won’t play in either of those. He’ll be back for the last two preseason games, and then we’ll see what goes on with his situation in the regular season. He comes into a good stable unit here. Donovan is a huge factor in that. Donovan and Michael are very close, and Donovan actually hosted Michael on his recruiting trip to Syracuse, and they’ve stayed friends since that time. Donovan will play a big part in that, as will the support of our football team and our coaches.” On what position Vick will play: “Michael Vick is a quarterback. That’s what he is. He’s a versatile quarterback, so there are some things that you can do. I haven’t put all of that together yet, but I have some pretty good ideas.” On the possibility of using Vick in the wildcat formation: “He can do some of that. I can’t give all of that away. We have to have a little element of surprise.”

Mike Brown is a lot of things and not a lot of things, I’ve never taken him as an out an out lier. I take him at his word when he says they had no interest, QBs are like queenbees and we already have a good one. More likely, Glazer played on an overplayed and over-exagerated reputation of the Bengals of past and assigned this rumor, confirmed or baseless, to them to get more hits on his website and continue a joke that has long ceased to be funny.

Didn’t you know that if you don’t have a criminal record you are not eligible to play for the Bengals!

Of course there are going to be flat haters for anything or anywhere Mike Vick plays or goes…but let’s remember he is a human being and as is written in the bible…”He must be Forgiven”, How many Sins or thoughts of Sins does the average person think or do every single day? No one’s perfect! As far as Mike Brown not signing him..shows how cheap he is not of how much he wanted him to get a second chance at football. Mike should have came out the pocket and maybe we would have something to look forward to this season and maybe the next. After all we have never beaten Michael Vick on the field of play..we could have at least had him on “OUR SIDE”, for once.

To bad Bengals as this guy can play. He who has not sinned cast the first stone. He did is time and let him do what he loves to do. Martha committed crime and she did her time and got back to what she loved to do. Animal lovers grow up..

Hold on one second. Is this the nature of reporting today??? We have Brian Kollars (who by his Sunday remarks doesn’t even like sports) reporting that Jay Glazer reported on Twitter, reports made anonymously to Foxsports.com that the Bengals had made an offer to Vick? Let’s not rip on the Bengals yet for this one when the twine on this fishing rod couldn’t hold a guppie. This is pathetic journalism Brian. We have no veracity to this story at all, yet we want to rip on the Bengals, just in case it’s right…or just b/c Brian doesn’t like sports and therefore ripping on the Bengals is fun. This kind of reporting shows we should keep McCoy and ditch a dumbass sports-hating “sports editor” like Kollars.

I saw Hard Knocks, it makes sence now. Mike Clown was thinking of switching him to tight end. He is willing to do anything as long as he doesn’t have to open his piggy bank and replace Reggie.

LOSER Mike Brown lies again. He said in an interview on TV he had no interest in Vick because a team can’t have “two qween bees” Why does anyone continue to spend their hard earned money on this loser?
