Dolphins showing interest in Browns’ Cribbs
Miami’s “wildcat” formation might be about to get a little bit wilder.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Dolphins are showing interest in trading for Cleveland Browns receiver/kick returner Joshua Cribbs.
The NFL trade deadline is Oct. 20 and Cribbs’ representatives have been seeking a new deal for their client since the offseason.
I’m told that negotiations on a new contract for Cribbs are at a stalemate and not to rule out a trade. It was not made clear whether or not the Browns would entertain offers for Cribbs, so a call was placed to Browns headquarters but GM George Kokinis was unavailable for comment.
Cribbs has three years remaining on a six-year, $6.7 million contract he signed in 2006, but is vastly undervalued with the current deal. The former Pro Bowler is scheduled to make $720,000 this season and $735,000, $750,000, $890,000 over the next three years.
In my opinion, the Browns are getting Cribbs on the cheap when you compare those numbers to his performance.
Cribbs brings a lot to the table, both on and off the field, and the Browns could do a lot worse with their money. With the trade deadline looming, it will be interesting to see if talks heat up. If not, this may give representatives for Cribbs leverage to demand a trade if the organization fails to negotiate.
Can things get any worse in Cleveland?

Dudes set to make over 2 million dollars the next 2.5 years.. I don’t feel sorry for him. Hell he probably didn’t even finish school.

The Browns got a deal in Cribbs, based on his performance over the past three years. It would be to Cribbs’s benefit to skip town and head down to Miami. The problem for Cribbs is that the Browns probably want at least a number 2 pick. I highly doubt the Browns will part with one of their only remaining legitimate stars.

Hey Sean, maybe you didn’t graduate. Cribbs graduated from Kent State. Secondly, don’t know what the prob is with Cribbs getting a new contract since he is the best player on the team. The Browns organization promised him a new deal after the 2008 season. Did he get it? No. Cribbs has MAD skills and he is better than Ocho NoNo. Cribbs is a lethal weapon and I’m not talking about the movie. I feel his agent should demand a trade.

Hey Carla… Cribbs just signed a new contract. If he wanted more $, he and his reps should not have signed such a long term deal in the first place. Nobody forced his hand and I agree with the organization. Their are other important players that need to be locked up long term…. You don’t worry about reworking 1 long term guy in that situation. And if they trade him, it is a bonus pick, considering he was a UDFA. BUT, his special teams presence is hard to replace.

Hey Carla what are you smoking? Cribbs isnt even in the same league with Ocho Cinco. Run the stats, he is a little leaguer compared to Chad

Bottom line it’s time for Cribbs to get a raise based on production!

Are you kidding me Butros? Cribbs can change the complexion of a game like that. There isn’t a team in the league that wouldn’t want him…and many do. I’m not sure too many want Ocho.

I’m a dolphin fan, and I hope this is true. I would love to have Cribbs. Our return team stinks. he would be a great addition for us. Please Cleveland, give him to us!! You’re giving away everyone else to the rest of the league. Time to share a little with us.

kurt, you clown. That contract is meaningless for protecting the player - the team can cut a player at any time and not owe them anything left on the contract.

Do the deal, make the trade! Dolphins won’t give a second, but will probably do it for a third and fifth or sixth. Browns need a major overhaul (once again), two extra draft picks will help the rebuiding begin. Do the deal! Make the trade!

If the Browns trade Cribbs, they are stupid. He is the only player that performs consistently!! They should give him a new contract!! BTW, why is anyone comparing him to Ocho Stinko?

Nothing less than a second and a fifth. The dude is a high-impact presence. I might even ask a for a first or a second for the next two years.

Why would you even compare Cribbs to Ocho? Ocho can’t return kicks, and Cribbs can’t run routes.

Are you guys crazy? You say at least a 2nd for a guy who is basically a kr/pr…. You traded Edwards for 2 average players and a 3rd and 5th! What makes you think you could get comparable picks for Cribbs?

2nd rounder for guy that cant get a raise even though he makes less than a mill a year. Are you nuts? Now that we now know we have both a passing game and running game the price just got lower. We’ll give you Patrick Cobbs. He’ll be a really good player for you in 2011 when he fully recovers from season ending knee surgery.

Shanader, well I live in Cleveland and I know Mangini! He would rather send Cribbs to the Jets…Mangini is a double agent for the Jets working in Cleveland…he told ownership, ok if you fire me in public I’ll go to Cleveland and get you a QB and send some talent your way to get you into the superbowl…no way we let go of Cribbs without a 2nd rounder…or a 3rd and a 5th. You have to remember, yeah Miami has a def and off, but Cribbs is our best player at this point and can vastly improve Miami’s poor special teams (on both ends). That could be all Miami needs to get to the AFC championship game…

well lets see Ginn for Cribbs? Ginn got this season already more receiving yds then cribbs in his whole career and Ginn got off to a slow start lol - N O T G O N N A H A P P E N. if so, he would be dealt for a draft pick. and i doubt the fins would give up more then a 3rd rounder in such a deep draft

If the Dolphins aquire Cribbs it won’t be for a second, not a third, perhaps not even a fouth,… fith rounder sounds about right. Parcells values draft picks and at 2-3 this team still has a few wins to go before they can start talking play-offs. Perhaps,… the Dolphins may be dangling Matt Roth last years starting outside linebacker. He is healthy and set to come off IR next week. Still I don’t believe Cleveland will be satified, thats probably why they leaked this story to the press. Think about it!

CAN THINGS GET WORSE IN CLEVELAND??—OF COURSE THEY CAN!!—PICTURE 4 FEET OF SNOW AND A 2-14 RECORD AND YOU’LL GET THE PICTURE!! SEND CRIBBS TO MIAMI IN EXCHANGE FOR A COUPLE OF LOW PICKS AND CLEVELAND MANAGEMENT CAN PAY THE REPLACEMENTS EVEN LESS THAN THEY’RE PAYING CRIBBS!! THAT IS WHAT THIS IS ALL ABOUT, RIGHT?

Why would I have any loyalty to the Jets,… They forced me to make changes I didn’t appove of and then the fans booed me out of town. I am a Browns fan only, I hate evry NFL team but the Browns. I hate NFC teams a little less, and I hate AFC North teams a little bit more.

Josh Cribbs, Phil Dawson and Dave Zastudil are the only reasons we stay in games as long as we do. Josh is among the top punt, and kick off returners in the league every year. He also leads our special teams in tackles usually. If our offense wasnt the equivalent of a sunglasses salesman. He’d be effective in that too. Any Cleveland fan dumb enough to be complaining about Cribbs. See what happens when we let him go. Jesus our fans are stupid!

I’m a lifelong, loyal Browns fan. But if the Browns trade a GAME CHANGER, a stud on and off the field, a guy who is one of the best in the league on BOTH sides of special teams - for an average wide receiver ?? I’ll go over to the Dark Side…………

Parcells steal him for a fourth and a seventh..haha. Kind of like stealing Ginn at number 9 or stealing Penningtons noodle arm? He’s not leaving for anything less than a 2nd and a 5th..mark my words.

Dawggy Style- Parcells didn’t draft Ginn, Pennington was a free agent and last but not least-when did the Browns last win the division? Oh and one more thing, all the EXPERTS claimed the Dolphins should have drafted Quinn at #9. How’s that working out for ya? Tool.

Cribbs is the only weapon cleveland has. Last week your QB completed 2, I say again, completed 2 passes. That was the worst NFL game I have ever seen. And Madgini was pleased???? Get out of town Cribbs, before one of your own teammates does you in for the season.
