Bengals to sign Johnson in wake of running back injuries

The Bengals are expected to sign running back James Johnson today, Aug. 10, 2010, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

The move is needed because of multiple injuries at the running back position.

Brian Leonard and rookie Cordera Eason could both be out for the season with torn foot ligaments, while Cedric Peerman is nursing a hamstring injury, according to Bengals.com.

Johnson (5-11, 205) was recently released from the Vikings. He played four games for Cincinnati at the end of the 2008 season and spent much of the 2009 season on the Bengals’ practice squad.

Maurice Clarett has served his prison time and is now looking for a job. He would fit in nicely with the Bengals.

I would love to see them sign Brian Westbrook. He would fit right into the third down specialist role if Leonard is out for an extended period of time.

I agree. Westbrook would be a perfect fit and his injury risk would be lower as a 3rd down back.

the dumb coaches should have kept jeremi johnson at the fullback. ive never seen a guy carry his weight so well. never seen him miss a block. he only made 1000 yard rusher out of 3 or 4 running backs. lets stop worrying about weight and worry about performance.
