How to raise a Jewish dog

414KxxnpbNL._AA240_.jpg

Reasons your dog may not be eating his food, from HOW TO RAISE A JEWISH DOG (Little, Brown and Company; to be published on 9/5/07)-(Paperback) by Rabbis of Boca Raton Theological Seminary—Barbara Davilman—Ellis Weiner(Narrator)

Wanting to torment the owner

Wanting to “get back at” the owner for some previous wrong

Being in one of his “moods”

Because nothing is ever good enough

Because something is always the matter

Because God forbid the owner’s life should be easy

Because the dog doesn’t like the owner’s cooking, apparently

Because the dog thinks he’s “fat,” which is the owner’s fault for giving him a poor self-image

Because the owner stresses the dog out too much Or something.

Do you remember the episode of SEINFELD where Jerry’s dentist converts to Judaism so that he can tell Jewish jokes?

I’m not Jewish but I still laugh at the jokes. Is that OK?? What do you think?

No you can’t tell Jewish jokes. And, certainly don’t tell this one. A Jewish man has been stranded on an island for years; he’s constructed an entire city out of palm trees and coconut shells. Upon his rescue he’s showing his rescuers around. This is the city hall, fire station, my synagogue. Someone asks him, what’s that place over there. He replies, “Oh, that’s the reform temple. I wouldn’t be caught dead in that place.”

I can’t WAIT to give copies of this book to other dog lovers! I love this kind of humor and so does my entire family. We’ll be having Christmas early, feeling much closer to the dogs and families in the Holy Land. And also the ones in NY.

Of course it’s okay! Everyone has their favorite Jewish joke. I’ve always liked the Jewish mother jokes. My favorite is the one about the mother who buys her son two new shirts for his birthday, one red and one yellow. After he unwraps them and expresses a great deal of gratitude, he takes them to his room. He hangs one up and comes back wearing the other. His mother looks at him and says, “So, what’s the matter- you didn’t like the red one?”
