Are the media giving John McCain a free ride?

21pOHe5xoHL._AA180_.jpg

The authors of a new book seem to think so. David Brock and Paul Waldman have written FREE RIDE - John McCain and the Media (Anchor Books).

They are attempting to make the case that many members of the press are totally enamored with John McCain - that they really, really like him a lot.

This doesn’t bode well for the prospect of balanced coverage of his presidential campaign does it? McCain is trying to act presidential these days. He just went to Iraq. That is a luxury that the remaining Democratic contenders, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama simply cannot afford at the moment.

Clinton and Obama are savaging each other like a couple of Michael Vick’s pit bulls. Not pretty. When the dust settles, will there be anything left? Are the Democrats destroying their chances of regaining the White House?

Did you notice that the photo on the cover of this book has McCain’s head framed perfectly with a dome above him that makes it look like he has a halo? Has this halo effect seeped into the journalism about the candidate?

And are the media giving McCain a free ride?

Free ride? McCain admits to being ignorant of economic theory and practice during a time of a nationwide economic meltdown. He says we could be in Iraqistan for a hundred years, when 80% of Americans want us out. Polls show him leading either Democratic candidate. McCain has the temperament of…a man who has endured much in life. The press fiddles while our country burns. Against all odds the media prefers to ignore 4,000 dead and over 30,000 wounded from the war. Cheney and Mac tour the Mideast, a coincidence. Mac now wants Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy permanent. It feels like the media is scared. I know I am. We have 3 very flawed candidates facing perilous times with a nation divided. Civil war…unlikely. Civil strife for generations..unquestionably.

It says a lot about the state of politics in this country that I have no clue if “Democratic Party” is a Clinton or a McCain supporter. Increasingly, they are very hard to tell apart.

No, no no! The media is giving Obama the free pass. You guys just can’t get enough of him and think he is the second coming of a messiah. And that is very dangerous. Attack all of them and let the least one standing win.
