LMJ, Haruf seems to be on the 5 year plan. His last book came out in 2005. The one before was in 2000. So maybe we can expect another one next year? I’m glad that Obama is reading “Plainsong.” I think that is Haruf’s best book.

Mark, scaring seniors is a Dem specialty. “Republicans will steal/cut your social security” being a favorite. I believe Mr Beck’s ratings are high enough that he won’t have any trouble replacing any departing advertisers.

I thought it was a joke when I saw it yesterday. Now, I see it’s #2 on Amazon’s Movers & Shakers list (where I had gone to see how many of the books the president took on his vacation hit the list.)

As a lefty who uses a Stalin avatar, I appreciate Beck’s sense of humor. But as someone who was raised conservative, I don’t appreciate what Beck and his faux populism slinging friends have done to this country. I cannot respect anyone who makes their living scaring seniors. Beck is the new Jerry Falwell, and now that his advertisers are fleeing in droves (33 at last count), I’m just waiting for him to start asking listeners to send him money.

When I was in East Berlin in 1973 the East German soldiers had uniforms that were quite a bit like Beck’s. Beck is a German name, right? Is Glenn connecting with his roots?

Mozart, good catch on the flag colors. East Germany also used the same colors, but added a hammer and compass. The Nazi’s didn’t use yellow in their flag. I’d guess it’s an East German uniform. The collar insignia and epaulets look East German to me. However, I’m no expert, it could also be Russian or Polish. I’m realitivly sure it’s not a Nazi uniform, the grey is off. Of course that could be the image on my screen.

It is obvious that he is mocking the Nazi regime and their mindset. Since your knowledge of history appears to be fantastically miniscule, the colors on the cover are of the German flag and the uniform is that of the Nazis. The idiots he is referring to are people of a certain mindset. People like Mike et al below would fall into that category.
