Well, that one went over my head - you’re puns are much to subtle for me, Vick. Anyway, the general point seems the same, rogue is a pejorative term. However, it’s a term that is starting to have special meaning to the radical right “Obamanators” who are ready to throw-down with the new revolution. Just what I want in a president - a Lone wolf in knee socks.

The interesting thing about “Going Rogue” is that the only prominent use of the word rogue in recent years has been in reference to nations like Libya, North Korea and Iran. That’s some context!

Haven’t read the book but saw an interview. Seems going Rogue title came from an incident where the Gov was asked a question during the campaign and she didn’t give the scripted response. The campaign staff immediately dressed her down and used the words “going rogue on us”.

What do you get when you take a local politician who is aggressive and has delusions of granduer, but clearly lacks intelligence and you mix that with a political party that protected (and promoted) her like a younger handicapped child? Sarah Palin. She has no more deserved popularity than the cast of The Hills. All it takes is some air-time, a radical group of followers, and a sense of entitlement. That confuses the uneducated into believing that there is substance to her, when the rest of us see more substance in Soap Opera actresses. 2012 will prove who is right. Let history and facts prevail, and all current opinions and philospophy do what they do best… support a dying political party.

There are thousands and thousands of books published every year Irish. The number of books that sell in the millions in a single year in the US is probably less than 100 titles. I have heard of books put out by major publishers, written by known authors, that have gotten lots of great reviews and ended up selling only a few thousand copies. It is a tough business. Luck helps but hype is key. Palin has lots of hype for this book and the big booksellers are practically giving it away, selling it for less than their wholesale cost. Which probably puts the publisher, Harper Collins (owned by Rupert Murdoch/ the same guy who owns FOX) in a good position to recoup their investment. That might not actually occur until the paperback comes out in a year or so. Depending upon what Palin is doing in a year, she could add a new section to the paperback and it could sell well again. Publishing is like farming, a crap shoot. Some crops fail no matter what you do. Easier cultivating weeds…some books make a profit on a shoestring budget. Palin’s book has some heavy costs; her advance, her book tour, the publicity machine runs on greenbacks. Most books probably barely break even. Especially now in this current economy. Publishers need blockbusters to pay for the rest of their list of titles. Just like Hollywood. Most movies lose money.

How many copies does the “average” book sell? Are most profitable? I know it depends on the advance, but how many copies would the average book need to sell to turn a profit? Do you think Harper Collins will recoup their investment?

Doctor Blowfly, Palin’s book is “Going Rogue.” This is the parody cover for a different book, “Going Rouge.”

Daytonian, I’ll assume your questions refer to this book, “Going Rouge.” Is it a mistake? Hard to say. It is a real book though. Is it a joke? I don’t think so. Is it an insult? That is a possibility. You would have to ask the creators of the book to be certain of their intent. Is it an act of stupidity? Not sure on that one. Time will tell.

Irish, with the advance Palin got from Harper Collins for her memoir they probably need to sell at least a couple million copies to recoup their money. Let’s say she sells a million copies- 10% of that is 100 thousand. No way “Going Rouge” sells that many. 1% would be 10 thousand. The publisher would probably be delighted to sell that many. Most books never sell 10 thousand copies.

Even the title is hard to understand “Going Rouge?” Is that something to be proud of? Why not call it “Going Postal?” Rouge is not a term that you would normally associate with anything desirable especially in politicians who are already viewed with suspicion. If you want someone you can’t control, can’t trust, can’t predict, off the grid independent - vote for me. I just don’t understand the appeal.

This circus keeps getting funnier and funnier. The left wing loons just wasted their money writing this because nobody will buy it. Where’s David Letterman, I figured he would have written the forward, he still “wants” her badly!!!!!!!!!

Vick, is this a mistake, joke, insult, or an act of stupidity? Please clarify.

Vick, I almost typed 1%, but I thought that might get Mark, Alice and DS reeaallly upset with me. At 1% sales (and I must confess, I’ve not looked at Mrs Palin’s sales) is it worth the investment to publish this book?

10% Irish?! They will be lucky to do 1% of Palin’s take…

I’m guessing sales will be about 10% of Mrs Palin’s book. I do think the title’s clever.

I wouldn’t be interested in this book because I don’t consider Sarah Palin to be a nightmare. Obviously she was to the left and, continues to torment them a year after the election. The former governor of Alaska is surely doing something right. The more the media picks on her, the more I become a bigger fan. I suggest reading Going Rogue.
