The Palin rules….

Sarah Palin has a book signing today in Sioux City, Iowa at the Barnes & Noble. Here are the rules for that book signing as reported by the Des Moines Register:

“Here’s a checklist of details provided by Barnes & Noble about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s scheduled visit to the bookstore at Southern Hills Mall, 4400 Sergeant Road, at noon today in Sioux City.

Wristbands will be handed out on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning at 6 a.m.

An original Barnes & Noble or BarnesandNoble.com receipt for Palin’s book, “Going Rogue: An American Story,” is necessary to get a wristband.

A maximum of two copies of the book per person will be signed.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

No photos.

No personalization of books.

Customers may only approach the signing table with “Going Rogue.”

No bags will be allowed in the signing line.

Cell phones and cameras must be turned off and put away before customers approach the signing table.

Customers with wristbands who leave the line for an extended period will have to rejoin the line at the end.”

BTW, Vick did you read yesterday’s NYT review of Mrs Palin’s book? The one on the Opinionator page by Stanley Fish. The comments are very entertaining.

Vick, The media is still talking up the “Mrs Palin isn’t Trig’s mom” bit. Joy Behar had alleged conservative Andrew Sullivan on her show and he was going on about it still.

DS,what I meant was Palin (the author) is not lacking in publicity as compared to your average author at a book signing. I think everyone got that but you. No suprise there.

Did you hear Mrs Palin gave Joe Biden a plug for his book “Going Rogaine”?

Sorry about the link crashing Vick! If one were to search the web for Mudflats, they seem to make a science out of Sarah watching. One of her (mudflats) readers in Tempe noted the photo costs and email registry. They stood in line for hours and can speak the truth to this. It’s sad that all the hubbub about a 1/2 term quitter evolves into a story line for the disenfranchised. Much like rich drug addicts like Rush speaking for the common man. I am reminded of Glenn Beck putting Vicks Vaporub into his eyes to cry on cue for America (this is a true fact). I wonder when we will wake up and see where these types are leading us?

I actually consider her demands quite reasonable. In 2004, when George Bush came to Des Moines you were required to sign a loyalty oath to attend his rally. But, Sarah has never been about politics as usual.

I tried to stay away from commenting about this blatant attempt at rehabilitation and cashing in on her celebrity but,……Raoul, really? You say, Palin “hardly qualifies as someone seeking publicity.” Please. This is an outrageous comment, even coming from you.

$14.95 is a bargain next to the $1,200.00 Al gore was planning to charge for a photo and handshake in Copenhagen this week. He’s believed to have canceled since the Climategate scandal is beginning to be reported. I haven’t heard about Mrs Palin charging for photos. I’d assume that would get some traction in the media.

Alaskan, please tell me that you are kidding?! (p.s. links to websites crash the entire comment thread so I had to remove yours-sorry!)

Surely we don’t need an Alaskan to remind you it’s all about the benjamins? Photos are taken of everyone in line as Sarah signs and offered at $14.95 for a 5 x 8. She gets a cut and your email address for further “attention”. We’re glad she’s gone.

Most authors like all the publicity they can get to sell their books. Ms. Palin hardly qualifies as someone looking for publicity. With all that she has endured, these checklist details hardly seem out of line. In fact, they make her look rather intelligent!

Philman, “the media” is not some monolithic entity. There were some segments of the media that tried to raise questions about Trig’s mother. Mostly blogs, actually. Then there are other “media” which continue to make demands for evidence of our president’s nativity. You probably have read or listened to some of that other “media” or you might not even be asking this question.

Vick, I’ve seen a lot of pictures of Mrs Palin signing books on this tour online. I don’t think she’s too worried about the photos, just the time involved. Guess we have our own opinions on that.

Why did the media demand to see Trig’s birth certificate when Palin was running for Vice President, but they have not demanded to see Obama’s?

For a loyal member of the democratic party you are very concerned what Ms Palin does .

I go to a lot of book signings. I’ve seen a lot of rules for some of the popular authors. I’ve never been prohibited to take photos. In fact, I’ve been to signings for Mary and Carol Higgins Clark where women brought tote bags full of books to be signed - which the women did (and personalized them, too) late into the evening. Another was Janet Evanovich who wouldn’t personalize, but still allowed photographs despite there being no room to move in the bookstore since the store started giving out numbers at 9 a.m. for a 7 p.m. signing. I’ve had my picture taken with the Clarks, Mike Farrell, Mitch Albom, Alexander McCall Smith, Diana Gabaldon, Diane Mott Davison, and Tom Barron among others. All very gracious people.

Irish, the no photo rule is in place because she doesn’t want anybody taking her picture. Pure and simple. That is all about controlling her image. Period. Exclamation mark.

Vick, I’ve never been to a book signing, but I’d assume those rules are in place to speed things up since she’s attracting such large crowds.

OK, D…do you go to a lot of book signings? 99% of them don’t ban the use of cameras. Authors love allowing their fans to take candid snap shots, even a lot of really famous authors allow that. It is understandable that Sarah Palin doesn’t allow cameras or cellphones. But interesting, though. I post things that some of your fellow readers might wish to read. You didn’t care for that post and that’s just fine by me. Thanks, for writing.

What’s the point of this? I’m neither a Palin basher or critic, but she has the same type of requirements that many people have for book signings, autograph sessions, etc. Um, no bags in line? What if someone was carrying a gun or razor blade or something. Why not write something instead of copying and pasting. And since I said 1 little thing negative, this won’t get posted.
