Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin
Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin is number one in sales over at Amazon.com.
This is the book that has caused the kerfuffle about Senator Harry Reid’s allegedly racist comments.
I have not read it.
I don’t know if Reid really said it.
I do know that this stinky bit sells books.
Harried readers, they must want to know.

It’s pretty clear that Halperin burned a lot of sources. It’s much less clear that the media running the Reid story are failing to note that Halperin does not put Reid or Clinton’s remarks in quotes, meaning that they’ve paraphrased what they were told was said. Game Change is being called the 450-page version of Page Six by many reviewers precisely because of Halperin’s established record of truthiness.

Vick, you can read the chapter “St Elizabeth and the Ego Monster” at the New York magazine website nymag.com. The illustrations are something to behold as well.

The point I was hoping to make is that this book is selling well because of all the media buzz about it, negative buzz about Harry Reid mostly. And who has actually read it? Not too many people, since it was actually published only 2 days ago. I don’t have a copy yet so I cannot make any opinions other than, gee, what great marketing….and almost 100 customer reviews already on Amazon. I wonder how many actually read the thing?

Um, Big Jack…should I pretend that I have read that book? Would that make you feel like I was better informed?

Vick, I haven’t heard Mr Reid deny it and he’s apologized for it the last couple of days. I read the excerpt of the behind the scenes bit from the Edwards campaign’s handling/hush up of Mr E’s affair. Just the kind of story the media would love (if he had an R next to his name)

Um, I’m a little confused as to why this was published. The author didn’t read the book or anything? This looks more like an unneeded blog post than an article.
