Who will win the World Series??

I have been rereading The First Fall Classic: The Red Sox, the Giants, and the Cast of Players, Pugs, and Politicos Who Reinvented the World Series in 1912 by Mike Vaccaro. It was just reissued in paperback.

People actually seem excited about baseball these days. I cannot remember an October like this in quite a while. I was riding along the bike path today and I passed a woman who was walking her dog. I didn’t know her. I had never seen her before. She was wearing a Reds cap. She grinned and shouted “Go REDS!”. See what I mean?

October in SW Ohio is usually all about football. Have you been thinking about the World Series? Who do you pick to win it all this year?

Here’s what I’m thinking -I usually root for the American League with one caveat; NOT the Yankees. Not ever.

So I’m looking at these playoff-bound AL teams: Texas, Tampa Bay, Minnesota, and that team in New York. I grew up a Twins fan in Des Moines-I will root for them when they play in the first round against the Yankees. But I’m actually looking at the National League teams because none of the AL teams are that compelling to me this year.

In the NL we have the Phillies, Reds, Giants, and Braves. I have to say that based on pitching and the way they seemed to really be coming on to peak as the season ended I’ll pick one team to win it.

Have you guessed? Yep, I’m picking the Phillies.

What team are you picking to win it all? How will they do it? I’m curious to hear your thoughts….oh, and this book is great!

The Giants really took it to the Phillies last night. Texas and San Francisco worked hard to earn the rights to play for the World Series title. I’m excited about this match up. I’m sure that FOX Sports is dreading a series without the Phillies or the Yankees. This will probably be a low rated series for viewers but is should be a great one even so…I was wrong about the Phillies. Raoul and Page Turner were right about the Giants…way to go!

The Halladay vs. Lincecum pitching duel is the hottest ticket around. If Sabathia went up against Cliff Lee in the ALCS that might compare but that probably won’t be happening…

Should be a great showdown between Halladay and The Freak. Go Giants!

The Phillies behind Roy Halladay are just about untouchable…

Twins better win tonight if they plan on going anywhere (and that won’t be easy). The chances of them winning two in a row in Yankee Stadium are not very good.

Love the Twins and they are my AL favorite. For the first time in my life I’ll be rooting for San Francisco. Any team that survived Dusty Baker gets my support. I guess we can agree on something Raoul. Scares me. On second thought, Go Redlegs!

This is America. You should know many of us root for the underdogs. The Reds will win over Philly. What an excellent year the Reds had !! The Reds played Philly tough and the games were close. Go Reds !!

Raoul, the Giants have some good pitching, too. They even have a young unknown rookie, Madison Bumgarner, who pitched well down the stretch. They have one of the better closers, too. But their offense is suspect. Of course in a short series anything can happen. Just ask the Padres. Interesting pick, Raoul. I’ll look back at these predictions when we have finally determined the winner…thanks!

Anybody but the Yankees! I hope the Reds win but I am going out on a limb and picking the Giants. Good pitching and a bunch of guys that don’t try to hit every pitch out of the park, and play real good defense. Joey Votto for MVP? You bet.

The Phillies seem to be unbeatable with the three pitchers they will throw at us….but go Reds!

Anyone but the Yankees. Get so sick of seeing them succeed. Like to see the Reds win it, but think it will be the Yankees/Phillies in the Series with, hopefully, the Phillies winning it all.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see the Reds do well. If they can get past the Phillies I think they can go all the way. If. The BIG if. When the Phillies loaded up their pitching staff with Roy Halladay and then grabbed Roy Oswalt in mid-season they were making the smart moves that can pay off big. I’m not picking the Phillies because I like them. I’m picking them because I think they are the best team still playing…

The Phillies certainly look like the team to beat with all their pitching. I’m hoping my Reds will surprise the world like they did in 1990.

I knew I liked you, Vick (NOT the Yankees. Not ever.). I guess I would root Ohio and go with the Reds.
