Obama gets Osama
Many books have been written about Osama Bin Laden over the past decade. Last night President Barack Obama, our Commander-in-Chief, announced that Osama Bin Laden has finally been brought to justice. Mission accomplished.
We can expect hundreds of books to be written about how that was actually done.

Obama is in full campaign mode. Now I hear he is switching on drilling here, but he’s doing it with a bunch of “if” and limitations. He knows he is coming up short on this point, so he thinks his appearance of switching on this will make him a better contender for President. He gave the order for the Seals to kill bin Laden. So Obama now has 2 things that he has made good decisions on. But…there’s still that pesky economy, and all of the unemployed who can’t find jobs because those jobs are in Mexico or China now. Thanks, Obama. We will make sure everyone knows whose fault it is we don’t have jobs but you spent all that stimulus money on basketweaving festivals and studies of dating habits of female college co-ed students. Nice. Narcissistic much? Has Obama even mentioned Japan since their earthquakes/tsunami?

One more thing, Vick. You said I made a comment about Jack? If I remember correctly, Jack’s views are similar to mine. So if you had a questionable comment about Jack, then I’m guessing a poser wrote the comment. And Obama’s anatomy? Are you talking about his big ears? I don’t think I mentioned those. So I’m guessing that was a poser trying to discredit me. Anyway, we’ll never know now. Had it been a poser, and you would have posted it like you do other’s comments, then I would have reported it as being obscene and you could have removed it then. But now we’ll never know… Isn’t it nice to know that we have VICK to protect us from information? Isn’t that nice of Vick to protect us? We’re adults, but Vick knows better for us…sounds like socialism to me!

Vick only publishes your comments if he agrees with them. That’s sloppy, Vick. Unamerican. You will publish negative comments about anyone you don’t like, how about you publish all comments and let us make our own decisions? No? This discredits your views. You apparently only have an open mind when it comforts your own cozy viewpoints. I have now forgotten what my comments were. I’ve seen plenty of slams against me, and you seem to have no problem publishing that crap…I guess you are one of those opportunistic chaps like the ones who rewrote our history books to make them look like our forefathers hated God and loved Socialism, huh? You know I’m right, Vick!

Raoul, thanks for reminding me why it’s so hard for us to get along. Until the Navy rejected me for my eyesight, I was planning on being a USN lifer. Like most lefties, I’m incredibly supportive of our troops. Their preening generals and admirals? Not so much. Like many Republicans, you seem to confuse supporting our troops with supporting deficit-creating military budgets designed to make contractors rich while our military families live on food stamps. I read a lot of lefty blogs every day, and I only know of a handful that were critical of the Osama offing (they thought he should have been dragged back in chains for trial instead). Not one lefty blog I know of is supportive of Osama, or critical of our military personnel, war criminals excepted (and I define war criminal like the Nuremberg judges did, and not like Fox News claims lefties define the term). My other take on your comment is that you obviously believe that anyone who doesn’t support EVERY WAR AND MILITARY ACTION is somehow unAmerican. I think you need to reread the rules for being an American, the right to take exception to government actions being rule #1. But all that aside, do you think Osama was worth the ONE TRILLION DOLLARS Bush and Obama have spent on Iraq and Afghanistan? I think we could have put a billion dollar price on his head and we would have had it within months of 9/11. Or am I being unpatriotic again to wonder happened to all that money?

Well, I’m just glad that for the time being the folks on the left like our military boys again. Welcome back to America, and this time stick around for a while. The Obama administration clearly wants to avoid all talk of waterboarding, and cannot seem to tell us what really happened in Pakistan. Here’s my take on water-boarding: I hate it! However, I hate terrorists even more, so get out the towels and turn on the water. It ain’t about values in a war without rules. It’s about common sense. You would think progressives would progress beyond tired old notions of the Geneva convention rules, which were written when nations fought against each other. I hear they are celebrating UBL’s death in Iraq. It’s been said before: everything changed after 9/11.

Sorry to factcheck you Vick, but Rummy’s already done a 180° on that one (not hard to do when truth telling is never high on your “to do” list). Since Osama got offed the former Bush intelligence community has expended more effort giving waterboarding the credit than they ever put into actually getting Osama (and the documentation on that is MASSIVE). Catching Osama ended the rationale for war, as Obama’s quickly finding out (even Republican House members are asking why we don’t leave Afghanistan now). There may have been some leads generated by waterboarding, but the perp credited with most of them also sent us on several hundred wild goose chases and never once coughed up the name of the courier they tracked back to the compound. A compound, btw, without air conditioning or other basic amenities — that million dollar price tag was for the security).

Gee whiz, Irish, I’m stunned. Donald Rumsfeld (loyal Republican) says that waterboarding was not responsible. Leon Panetta (loyal Democrat) creates the impression that perhaps it was used. So you go with Panetta because that’s what you want to believe. I’m stunned, Irish…

Looks like Leon Panetta, when pressed by Brian Williams, would not dismiss waterboarding as a method to get the Intel that led to Osamsa death. Or, I’ll see your Rumsfeld and raise you a Panetta. ;-)

Vick, hate to burst your bubble, but Peter King, chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security, said the water boarding of KSM revealed the nickname of the courier that eventually led to OBL’s demise. As I understand it the 183 refers to “pours” of water, not individual sessions. TIA, are you really comparing those who water boarded terrorists to murdering Nazis, or worse yet, Commies?!! I’m pretty sure all the Gulag and Concentration Camp inmates would have taken water boarding over the treatment they rec’d. If any detainees died of water boarding, I didn’t hear about it. Most waterboarding sessions had a doctor in attendance. It’s safe enough that WE DO IT TO OUR OWN GUYS in training!! I’ve never heard anyone crying over that, not even the pilots that undergo it.

Well guys, I hate to burst your bubbles but according to Donald Rumsfeld, waterboarding had nothing to do with the locating of Osama bin Laden. Here’s more from Talk Radio News: “Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is claiming the information that tipped the U.S. off to terrorist leader Osama bin Laden’s location was not collected through the controversial enhanced interrogation technique known as waterboarding. “It is true that some information that came from normal interrogation approaches at Guantanamo did lead to information that was beneficial in this instance,” Rumsfeld said during an interview with the conservative magazine Newsmax. “But it was not harsh treatment and it was not waterboarding.” Bin Laden’s location was reportedly revealed by tracking the terrorist leader’s top courier, whose identity was revealed by al Qaeda official Khald Sheik Mohammed. Rumsfeld’s statements counters speculation from number of conservative commentators and lawmakers that Mohammed may have revealed the identity following the enhanced interrogation technique, a development that many claimed would justify the use of the controversial method. Others have also cast doubt on the role waterboarding may have played in the investigation. When asked during an interview on MSNBC Tuesday morning if waterboarding directly lead to bin Laden, Obama’s top counterterrorism advisor John Brennan responded “not to my knowledge.” In addition, an Associated Press story that cites former CIA officials attributes the bin Laden information to standard interrogation perfrormed months after Mohammed was subjected to the technique. Mohammed, a Guantanamo Bay detainee, was reportedly waterboarded 183 times.”

Squirrelly Girl, today is May 3. I have been in the recording studio since early this morning. This is the first time I have been able to moderate comments today. And I’m afraid that you are veering onto some shaky turf. Referring to our president’s anatomy was in poor taste. As for your comment about Jack? Waterboarding is neither safe nor legal. It’s torture pure and simple. The authorities who utilize this procedure are no better than the Nazis, Stalin’s thugs, or Mao’s minions. The info on the couriers was obtained over time with traditional interview techniques. To call something legal that we have signed international treaties agreeing not to do is giving John Yoo way too much credit. He is as bad a war criminal as his buddies Bush and Cheney. Just because we are the biggest bully does not make us legal, just bullies.

I am glad our military was able to get Osama. However, it doesn’t change how I feel about President Obama. He still needs to answer for the way he has manipulated our laws to get his redistribution of wealth bills passed. And the way he has polarized this nation. And for sending billions of dollars to Brazil for drilling there. And for sending jobs to Mexico and China that we needed here in the states. And for not securing our borders so that there are wars on American land with ranchers being murdered and people getting their heads chopped off by drug cartel and terrorists slipping through our southern borders. And for spending money and adding 4 trillion dollars to our deficit. And for ignoring the majority of Americans who don’t want to fund tax payer funded abortions via his hc bill. And for making the hc bill mandatory which is unconstitutional. And for going to war in a 3rd country on the marching orders of the UN without getting congressional approval that was required by our laws. I could go on, but my fingers are tired.

According to the AP, via the Washington Post, it would appear the safe and legal water boarding of KSM gave us the nick name of the courier that eventually led to OBL’s demise. Don’t imagine that news will change anyone’s opinion of that discontinued practice. I’m just glad we had it long enough to get a lot of valuable Intel.

Actually, the US has been trying to kill bin Laden since the early 90s. This operation appears to have been nearly flawless and Obama deserves as much credit as Bush would have gotten had this happened when he was president. Don’t read too much into the information we are getting, because if history means anything we are only getting part of the truth and then some extras. The truth will turn out to be far more complicated. Also, most of the posts to this thread are embarrassing.

With some notable exceptions, this comment thread is like a raw slice of talk radio. It must be nice to live life with the covers pulled up over your head. Bush told the American public he didn’t care about catching bin Laden, and he disbanded the military group that was tasked with finding him. Yes, the military took out bin Laden, but on Obama’s orders, orders that reversed Bush-Cheney policy. Righties don’t have to like Obama, but if they take patriotism seriously, they really shouldn’t lie about these things. Now, let’s bring ALL our troops home and let’s keep them home.

Imagine the freakish reaction and demigod/Godlike status and these haters would have bought into had this happened under the GWB administration. BUT IT DIDN’T, it happened on PRESIDENT OBAMA’s watch and you should all be praising the day and rejoicing that justice has been done. This is a proud time for our great nation, those who use it to and hurl insults and rant and scream that it didn’t happen, you are the most UNAMERICAN among us. God bless the USA and all of the families affected by this tragedy, and I pray this gives them a bit of comfort and peace.

GWB should be credited with reconstructing a deconstructed Central intelligence Agency that made possible the intelligence gathered, the Seals and the rest of the brave men and women of the, greatest fighting force in the world, and BO for giving the trigger order form the Seals. It is a team effort. Any one person saying they ar re solely responsible for the kill is ldelusional…

Obama got Osama? Obama ‘ordered’ the strike ? I think the answer to both is a resounding ‘NO’. The Navy SEALS carried out a mission, resulting from countless hours of hard & dangerous work by various military & intelligence personnel. Mr. Obama was undoubtedly notified of the operation - and may have said ‘OK, go ahead’ - but the only active part he had was taking credit for it.
