Show of the Week: Not Enon

Yea, Enon’s playing Gilly’s on Saturday, June 20th. I’m a fan and I think the show will be a great show. Especially with Squid’s Eye records bands Astro Fang and Human Reunion opening. Also opening is one of my favorite songwriters in town and member of the band Captain of Industry, Nathan Peters.

Fun show, I’m sure. But, it is not the only show happening in Dayton this weekend. (To read more about the Enon show visit www.ActiveDayton.com to read Don Thrasher’s article. Also read a great exclusive interview with the band posted at the Buddha Den.)

Three other big shows are on my radar for Saturday.

  1. Mouth of the Architect is at Peach’s Saturday. The Translation Loss Records band is art-core at it’s best. The band has spent most of ‘09 writing their follow-up to last year’s release named Quietly. They are in Columbus on Friday and then in Yellow Springs on Saturday.

  2. Also Saturday is a rare show from my friends in Vows. The old fashioned heavy rock 4-piece features ex-Shadyside, ex-When Sparks Fly, and ex-Shazbot members. The Vows show at Blind Bob’s Saturday is sure to be fun with Nightbeast and Electric Banana also playing.

  3. Never forget to catch a local performance from Jesse Remnant. He is playing at Canal Street Tavern on Saturday. I caught him at the Dayton Dirt Collective last month with Wake Up Mordecai. Jesse, along with his backing band the Trainwrecks (featuring my fav Dayton drummer Dan Stahl) put on a really great show. They play infectious indie-folk-pop that is at times downtrodden in mood, but always pretty sounding.

I’m such a fan I follow Jesse on Twitter. On June 6th he had a dream he was “dating Liz Lemon.” I too have had that dream.
