Canadian basketball player among 10 signed
When the Browns announce their post-draft signings of undrafted college free agents, typically there is a flicker of recognition with respect to one or two of them.
Not this year, although I admit to not following college football as closely this past season.
OK, so here’s the list released today, and if you’ve heard of any of these people, I’m guessing you’re either Mel Kiper or you’re related to them:
Casey Bender, OL, South Dakota State; Benjamin Burney, DB, Colorado; Chris Chancellor, DB, Clemson; Auston English, LB, Oklahoma; Johnathan Haggerty, WR, Southwest Oklahoma State; Swanson Miller, DL, Oklahoma State; Dion Morton, WR, Colorado State; Joel Reinders, OL, Waterloo; Aaron Valentin, WR, Purdue; Troy Wagner, TE, Indiana.
There’s probably a roster spot waiting for one or two of these guys to grab. Remember, casting a wide post-draft free agency net is how the Browns landed Joshua Cribbs; how the San Diego Chargers landed a Kent State basketball player named Antonio Gates; how the Steelers found Super Bowl MVP James Harrison.
My favorite, just from looking at the bios provided by the Browns, is Reinders. He’s a 6-foot-7, 320-pound Canadian who played basketball his first two years in college and majored in kinisiology.
Hope he makes it.
