More tight end bolstering
Tight end Alex Smith, who has 132 catches for 1,277 yards and 11 touchdowns in his five-year NFL career, signed with the team today.
Smith started five games for the Philadelphia Eagles last season, catching three passes for 25 yards.
He was a third-round draft pick of Tampa Bay in 2005 and led all rookie tight ends with 41 catches for 367 yards and two TDs that year.
Smith becomes the fifth tight end on the roster, joining Evan Moore, Robert Royal, Ben Watson and Greg Estandia.
