Another legend eased out
On the heels of Jim Brown’s departure from his role as “senior adviser” in which he mainly did nothing, the team announced the “retirement” of Paul Warfield from the front office today.
It’s been a bad couple of weeks for legends.
The Warfield announcement was buried in a press release about changes to the personnel department.
John Spytek (great name, should work for Belichick), who hopped aboard in January, is the new director of college scouting. He had been with the Philadelphia Eagles under GM Tom Heckert, now the Browns’ GM.
The Browns also said Pat Roberts, last year’s director of college scouting, will serve as senior national scout, a position he previously held with the Browns for four yeras.
Also from the Eagles comes area scout Johnathon Stigall, the team said.
Warfield, the Hall of Fame wide receiver, had served as the Browns’ senior adviser to the general manager since 2004. He had been hired by ex-GM Phil Savage and had a hand in assessing receivers.
