Looks like Beanie will play against USC

Jim Tressel chatted with the media moments ago on the weekly Big Ten teleconference. The third question was about Chris Wells, the Buckeyes’ injured star running back. Here’s what Tressel had to say:

“Based on what I saw yesterday (Monday) he’s running well. The key is how well he’s able to practice in the back half of the week. I’ll be anxious to see how much soreness he has after yesterday’s workout. I was encouraged.”

Later, at his weekly media luncheon, Tressel said that Wells would practice Wednesday.

“The (trainers will) let him do a lot of football things without people around,” Tressel said, “and then tomorrow they’ll let him be in the fray.”

Other nuggets from Tressel:

— He called the chance to play USC “a privilege” and said “maybe we’ve been thinking about it too much, who knows?”

Comment: Closest thing to an excuse Tressel will give about the Buckeyes’ poor performance against Ohio U.

— On USC’s improved vertical passing game: “Everything begins with protection. If you let Mark Sanchez stand in, he’s going to hurt you.”

Translation: The Buckeyes need to put that pretty boy on his butt.

— On the point spread (USC is a 10-point favorite): “I didn’t know until you just mentioned it that that was the point spread or whatever. I don’t know if we can invest a lot of time into that. … We know we’re playing a great football team. Quite honestly I didn’t know anything about it.”

Comment: I’m surprised the words “point spread” crossed Tressel’s lips.

— On carrying the battered Big Ten banner into arguably the biggest early-season matchup of 2008: “Every time we play another conference, you’re always carrying your league’s banner. We feel that way, especially with all the notice this game has.”

Comment: It would be nice if the Big Ten could win a big nonconference tilt. The other big ones Saturday are Michigan at Notre Dame and Wisconsin at Fresno State.

As a resident of Ohio but a follower of the Vols, I think I have an unbiased say in this. It will be a good game, close, but USC will come out by at least two touchdowns. I just dont see OSU giving much fight to take this game.

I want to address the comments made by bigrob and unbiased. First to bigrob, I don’t think USC wil blow out OSU because I don’t think they have the same type of offensive team that they have had in the past. All their good players are in the NFL. I expect it to be close (OSU covers the spread) with OSU winning on a last second FG. They have a couple of very good kickers. To unbiased, I don’t see UT playing any top ranked teams in their first 4 games. I see UT loosing to both Florida and Georgia (in their division) and possibly Alabama (SEC). GO BUCKS!!!

44-17 so-cal…the choke-eyes still have the same slow recievers they had in the NC game vs LSU; so cal will employ the same plan as the Tigers; single cover the ends and stuff the running game, forcing the suckeyes to submit like they have the last 2 season-enders…as my friends in the band Metallica once sang, “SAD BUT TRUE”…

jgecowets, why are you so angry and lashing out at others for expressing their opinions. Th UT fan simply stated who he thought would win and you attacked him. I don’t like usc or osu, but tressell will be outcoached again and lose by at least 18.

Who has USC beaten? Virginia. A team picked to finish last in about every poll in a poor poor ACC. I know they spanked them, but this is not the same Virginia team that played in a bowl game last year. OSU gets Beanie Wells back, and comes in focused and ready to play. USC is not the dominating team everyone thinks. Northmont’s Kurt Coleman will get his first career pick and return it to the house and OSU wins a close one.

Im a big OSU fan the difference i see in OSU and USC is their mentality. USC mind set is no matter who we are playing we are going to kill you, disrespect you, and just plain bully you. OSU cant go in there with that soft mentality. Now to me they only one besides Beanie who has the same mentality that USC has is Malcolm Jenkins you know he is going to come out and play like a wild man. We need that from the rest of the guys and we need Coach Tress to unleash them dogs and stop holding back and being scared. GO BUCKS!!!

USC has played one game against a ACC bottom dweller and all of a sudden, they are “the best team in the country.” I don’t think so. I am glad we are the underdog…the Buckeyes by 14, bank it…GO BUCKS!!!! And Beanie rolls for 180 yards!!!

USC beat a bottom feeder from the ACC and doesn’t deserve the hype they have received from the win. UVA was lucky to escape with a win against Richmond this past weekend after garnishing two late fourth quarter garbage touchdowns. OSU will hold their own. Looking forward to a fun and exciting game with Beanie back in the mix.

Just throwing it out there. I believe that USC is being inflated due to their lopsided victory and the bucks poor play against OU. Having personally seen UVA play last weekend in Charlottesville, I would lay it all down that OU would stomp UVA by thirty. Besides, what else do we have to go by? Certainly not games from the last couple of years. If that is the case, didn’t USC lose to Stanford? in the coliseum no less…

USC has too much talent and speed just like Florida and LSU for OSU to deal with. If turnovers don’t decide this game, it’s USC by 14 - maybe more. Ask OU, Illinios, Michigan, Auburn, VaTech, Nebraska about the speed. Just some of the latest victims. Speed kills.

I’m more concerned with Ohio State’s defense. If their front four play the same as they did against Ohio University, Sanchez will pick them a part. It could be ugly. Let’s hope a different team shows up.

Speed is ballet for people who do not want to play football. For the track meeters, you’ll be unpleasantly surprised when your skirts are buried into the ground by people who live in the real part of this country.

OSU has no talent, speed, strength, or smarts. I guess we should all accept the fact we will lose 4 years in a row to the team that wins the national title. Its a good things that games aren’t played on paper but in tv sets, across radio dials, and on the internet. Go Bucks 27-16

This USC team has no big game experience. The qb has started in what 3 or 4 games? Please..way over hyped USC will be playing a veteran team come Saturday..a team that has much more to prove than USC. I am glad they are favored by 10. I remember back in 2002 a team from Miami was supposed to blow us out…keep it coming…GO BUCKS!!!!

Hate to say it, but I think the speed of USC dominates in this game. Ohio State’s only chance is if Boeckman and the offense show up, move the ball, take their share of possession time and score TD’s (not FG’s). Would be plesantly surprised to see that.

Typical buckeye fans picking on USC for blowing out a subpar BCS conference team, when the osu beat a aa bottom feeder and barely beat a lowly ranked mac team. The vest will be outcoached AGAIN. USC by as many as they want, but at least 18.

osu fans are delusional. SEC football rules. I would be embarrasses to ADMIT I was a fan of osu. Good Heavens they are 0-9 against the SEC. Please after living in the south as long as I have and being a scout for college programs. The SEC is far superior with depth, talent and speed. No comparison. The osu record against the SEC speaks for itself. CASE CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!

I’m not sure which team is going to win, but i would like to point out that SEC1 is stupid. I don’t how you can consider your opinion about football relevant when you consider what LSU did to OSU “stuffing the running game” when the OSU’s starting running back averages 7.4 yards per carry.

To the person who said he would be embarrased to be an OSU fan. Why would you be embarassed to be a fan of one of the best college football teams of this decade? OSU has the best fans, tradition, stadium, band, and has been in 3 national championship games in 10 years. The two loses do not diminish one of the elite football progrtams on the country.
