Ohio State signs football legend’s son

This just in from Ohio State media relations:

Griffin Signs With Ohio State Football

Columbus native 19th to join Buckeye recruiting class

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Adam Griffin, a terrific all-around athlete from St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus, Ohio, has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend The Ohio State University.

A 5-9, 185-lb. running back, defensive back and return specialist, Griffin helped DeSales advance to the 2009 state championship game. An all-district and all-Columbus metro selection playing for Coach Ryan Wiggins’ Stallions, the honor roll student is also a basketball starter at DeSales.

“Adam Griffin has a passion to be an Ohio State Buckeye,” says Coach Jim Tressel. “He will add a great deal to our football family on the field, in the locker room and on our campus. Adam clearly understands the privilege of being an Ohio State Buckeye.”

Adam is the son of Bonita and Archie Griffin; Archie, a Buckeye Hall of Famer and the only two-time winner of the Heisman Trophy, lettered from 1972-75 at Ohio State.

The Buckeyes begin spring practice April 1. The football spring game is April 24 at Ohio Stadium.

That’s great …. Good Luck Adam Griffin ! The Buckeyes have Archie’s son , Adam , in the 2010 recruiting class . Maybe , this is a very special recruiting class despite what the sports analyst rate it . Go Bucks !

I have seen him play twice in person and he is no great prize. very, very small..reasonably quick..looked like a much better corner than a running back.. I think this one was mostly a favor to dad, certainly does not add much to the recruiting class, although I was not unhappy about the class except for thelack of linemen.

I am sure he will be an excellent addition. He has the bloodline to do amazing things, give him some time and he will make us all proud! Great job Buckeyes!

If Adam has half the heart and desire of Daddy, he will be a great addition to this recruiting class. Remember those who thought Archie was too small for major college football? Oops on that one!

We need to remember he’s not his dad. So lets let Adam be Adam, he dosnt have to live up to anything.

Let’s face it Buckeye fans, either way it works out the first time he takes the field it will be exciting. Give him the chance any player deserves and if he doesn’t live up to the hype, oh well. He still made the team which is more than most high school football players do. Good luck Adam and go Bucks!

This is what the experts are saying… Adam Griffin’s signing comes as a bit of a surprise, as he didn’t receive any other big-time offers. Ohio State had a few extra scholarships to give after coveted offensive linemen Matt James and Seantrel Henderson went elsewhere (Henderson could still end up as a Buckeye if he doesn’t sign with USC). This was clearly a move to make Archie feel good. Please tell me the last Ohio State recruit that did not have a single big school offer. Think about it…what a waste!

I stood beside this kid at welcome Stadium during the playoffs this year and if he is 5’9” and 185, I am 7’2” and 500. I would say he is 5”6 or 5”7 and 160. Nice gesture for the revered one, but not a big time player.

Archie Griffin is not the AD at OSU. He is the President and CEO of the Alumni Assocaition. Call it a waste, call it whatever you want. Wait a couple of years and judge it then.

the nasty posts are typical of what it makes it hard to be an osu fan—-current reputation of being the most obnoxious fans in america—-so sad since you have probably two of the best coaches ever in matta and tressel—-too bad so many of your fans are so classless

Folks, don’t mind 12penguins he is a h8r from B’creek. If he wasn’t complaining and being a genuine grump he wouldn’t be able to exist. Best of luck Adam! Go Bucks!

Where else would the son Of Archie go. Ohio State doesn’t want him Michigan will take him.Sometimes you do things cause It’s the right thing to do. Wake up all you moron’s who are questioning his ability. You now have the distinction and honor of saying Archie Griffin and his son both went to Ohio State. Wake up

I for one think it is great that they gave Adam Griffin a scholarship. I would rather see them “waste” a sholarship on someone that has always wanted to be a Buckeye, who has a heart that bleeds Scarlet & Grey, than someone like Hicks or Henderson that has no idea what it means to be a Buckeye. It takes talent, size and HEART to be a great player. Give him a chance and I for one wish him the best of luck as the newest member THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES…GO BUCKS!!!

too bad Pryor won’t be able to show “respect” to mike vick this year on his eye black. Maybe he will get to follow in his foot steps into the federal prison system. You better move him to receiver, or he will be wasted. He’s no QB..

By Not an OSU fan

I am not a fan of OSU but I think I know where the fans are coming from. I think they feel that they could use the scholarship in a better place than to just give it to Archie’s son just because of his name. I am sure that he is a good kid and decent player but OSU tradition is not to give a scholarship to a decent player. If he recieved 0 big school offers then he must not be a stud. I think that the fans are simply saying let him walk on and use the scholarship on a better player.

It’s a mistake to give scholarship to Adam Griffin. He is a 2-star athelete, should be a walk-on. Tressel should be fair on giving out scholarship but he is lazy this year, that’s why Ohio State recruiting fell out of top 25 rankings. Archie Griffin should tell his son to give up the scholarship.

Since Adam is an honor roll student maybe he can tutor Duron Carter. (Chris Carter’s son) Football is more than height, weight, and 40 time. Anyone that has ever played the game knows this. Sometimes we all need to catch a break. If you are a fan of OSU then be a Buckeye and root for the underdog! I remember a kid named Ryan Brewer that didn’t get to go to OSU and he made them pay for it. Jimmy Tressell learned his lesson. Loyalty means something at Ohio State. If you had the chance to help your son or daughter get something they really wanted wouldn’t you do whatever you could to help their dreams come true?

The buckeyes year and year out are in the top 5 in recruiting. Look at the problems are friends up north are facing, no LOYALTY, NO FAMILY ENVIRONMENT, LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF TRADITION! If it means recruiting a legacy, then so be it, I have seen him play, is he a top performing ohio athlete, maybe not, but there is one thing that he does have, the heart and understanding of what being a buckeye is all about, he understands his responsibility once he puts that jersey on, sandwich this type of kid with the flashy recruits, and it = championships! do you realize the influence and leadership he will bring, it will be assistant coach like, but at the parties and in the middle of the growth of many around him who are just coming to understand the responsiblilty he already knows and has. stay thirsty my friends…..go bucks!

No problem at all with the ride for adam. If he’s half as classy as old #45 then he’ll do buckeye nation proud.Remember, alot of great players never even see the field at osu.

After reading all the posts on here it has become quite apparent to me of all the NON Buckeye fans that have to post there opinions! Its truly amazing that ignorant fans from other teams, namely that team up north & the SEC, have to open thier big mouths and make the rest of us look so bad! That only tells me one thing… they are all afraid of the Brutus! But let me asure you perpetrators… us true BUCKEYE NATION fans are fully aware of your presence and are diligent at swatting you away like the parasites you are!
