Legendary actress coming to town
Get ready for class.
Star of stage and screen Diahann Carroll will kick off the Junior League of Dayton’s 2009-2010 Town Hall series during an appearance named for her book, “The Legs Are The Last To Go: Aging, Acting, Marrying, and Other Things I Learned the Hard Way.”
Carroll, the first black actress to star in her own NBC series, Julia, will appear Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Schuster Center, 1 West Second Street, Dayton.
The League is community group with a mission focused on healthy families.
Tickets are $30 each or $90 for the complete series which also includes former Miss Ohio Jackie Mayer, Sandcastles Program creator M. Gary Neuman and Cedar Cove book series author Debbie Macomber.
Carroll, a breast cancer survivor, also played Dominique Deveraux on “Dynasty” and Myrt in “Carmen Jones.”
She will be the special guest during an invitation only reception Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Think TV. That sparkling event is sponsored by the Junior League and Freund, Freeze and Arnold.
“She’s an incredible woman, very classy ,” said Bill Miller of the legal services firm. “I think she will bring a lot of star power.”
During the 50s nightclub-themed event, partygoers will have the opportunity to meet Carroll and have their photos taken.
