Carly Simon reveals man behind “You’re so Vain”
For 38-years his identity was the musical equivalent of the formerly hidden identity of Deep Throat (Mark Felt of Watergate fame).
Now folk singer Carly Simon has reveal the name of the dude who inspired her 1972 hit “You’re So Vain.”
The mystery man is not who you think. Nope, it wasn’t one of her ex-lovers: not Cat Stevens, Mick Jagger, Warren Beatty or Kris Kristofferson.
In fact it, it apparently doesn’t have anything to do with romantic love at all.
Simon whispers the name “David” in the a new version of the song. The UK’s Daily Mail says the David she’s whispering about is openly gay mogul David Geffen, co-founder of DreamWorks SKG and the head of Elektra, Simon’s then-record label.
The newspaper guesses Simon wrote the song after Geffen dissed her and began heavily promoting her rival Joni Mitchell.

TweetPETA scraps neuter Tiger Woods billboard, going after Mark Sanford
Here’s good news for PETA and bad news for wives: there are plenty of cheating dogs to mock while promoting animal spaying and neutering.
Lawyers for golfing great Tiger Woods ‘kindly’ threatened to sue the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals if the activist group proceeded with hilarious plans to erect billboard mocking Woods reading “Too Much Sex Can Be a Bad Thing … For Little Tigers Too. Help Keep Your Cats (and Dogs) Out of Trouble: Always Spay or Neuter!”
Perhaps shaken and stirred, PETA will now put up a billboard featuring that South Carolina’s governor of lust Mark Sanford as part of its “cheeky spay-and-neuter” campaign.
According to the New York Post, the tagline will read “Your dog doesn’t have to go to South America to get laid.”
PETA’s ad campaign aims to reduce the number of cats and dogs from being euthanized at shelters each year, according to The Orlando Sentinel.

TweetMichael Jackson ‘911’ tape reportedly released
The UK Sun has released a recording it claims is of emergency workers calling ahead to a hospital for Michael Jackson.
Click here to hear the recording.
If legitimate, the recording could be used as evidence against Jackson’s doctor Conrad Murray. Murray is accused in Jackson’s June 25 death.
In the recording, a man voice believed to be that of an Los Angeles Fire Department medical worker says: “Patient is Michael Jackson, the pop star singer. No pulse, no breathing. Unresponsive. Tried to resuscitate him. Unsuccessful,” the Sun reports. “We’ve done everything we can. We should be there in five minutes. It doesn’t look good. It doesn’t look good.”
A fire department spokesperson didn’t deny the recording was real, according to the New York Post. “I couldn’t confirm that is one of our workers. It could be. They refer to ‘pop star Michael Jackson’ but it is not our practice to name names,” the source said.

TweetJohnny Depp pleads for the lives of convicted satanic killers
Add advocate to the Mad Hatter’s bag of tricks.
On the episode of CBS’s ‘48 Hours Mystery’ set to air 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, Johnny Depp pleads the case of three men he and many others believe were wrongly convicted of killing three 8-year-old boys during a satanic ritual in 1994.
“I firmly believe Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley are totally innocent,” the “Alice in Wonderland” star says in a clip from the show. “There was a need for swift justice to placate the frightened community.”
Echols is on death row for the gruesome murders in West Memphis, Ark. The other two received life sentences.
The trio have been the subject of two HBO documentaries - ‘Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills’ and ‘Paradise Lost 2: Revelations’ - that presents evidence pointing to their innocence.
Depp says the case should be reopened, noting that the trial focused too much on the then teenagers’ fixation with heavy metal music and Stephen King books.
Depp is not the only famous person who thinks the three were wrongly convicted. Their supporters also include Henry Rollins, Winona Ryder, Eddie Vedder and the Dixie Chicks.

TweetLocal anchor vying to be named ‘America’s Hottest Husband’
America’s hottest husband might very well be Fox 45’s Don Hammond.
Hammond, an anchor and reporter for WKEF/ WRGT-TV, is one of “22 sexy finalists” in RedBook magazine’s “America’s Hottest Husband of 2010” contest.
Hammond and the other finalists were chosen by Redbook’s editors Online voting is being conducted to help determine the winner.
The grand prize is a seven-day, six-night all-inclusive stay at St. Jame’s Club in Antigua valued at $7,000.
The winner and runners up that will appear in RedBook’s June “Hot Husbands” issue.
Hammond, an Ohio native, was raised in the Dayton and Cincinnati areas. The 53-year-old has been married four years and has two children and three stepchildren.
Here’s Hammond’s entry from RedBook’s website:
Catherine Morningstar met her husband on television — at the station where she also worked. Don was the TV anchor for the news that Catherine, 47, directed.
She assumed he would be a stereotypically arrogant anchor, but after getting to know him, she was pleasantly surprised to find he had a big heart. Just three months after the pair started dating, Donald was transferred to Washington, DC, yet he returned to Dayton often to visit Catherine.
On these trips, he always helped to take care of the house and cut firewood in the winter.
“Helping out in those ways were his little ‘love notes’ to me,” Catherine says. “I sometimes tear up thinking of all the work he’s done. It really moves me.”
Don and Catherine now work at the same station again, yet are on opposite schedules, so they fit in most of their together time on weekends.
“We like to unwind by going to antique stores and flea markets,” she says.
On Sunday nights, they sit down as a family for movie night. Don is a good role model to Catherine’s kids as well as to his own.
“He’s concerned about every step of what they’re doing,” she says. “We’re making sure they’re starting along the right path so they can be respectable, good, decent adults.”
Catherine acknowledges that the camera loves her husband, but she loves his arms most of all. “I’m a sucker for big, massive muscles,” she says. “They make me feel so protected and safe.”

TweetElton John: “Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man”
Pop legend Elton John opens up about everything from romance to religion in this week’s Parade Magazine, in the Dayton Daily News this Sunday, Feb. 21.
“I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don’t know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East — you’re as good as dead,” he reportedly says in an article by Dotson Rader.
The article coincides with John’s annual Oscar bash for his AIDS Foundation.
John discusses the death of his famous friends, including Princess Diana and Gianni Versace. He also discusses passings of not so famous friends.
“Every time I sing ‘The Ballad of the Boy in the Red Shoes’ onstage, I say that this is a song written about a time when people in America started getting AIDS and your president, Ronald Reagan, did nothing about it. I get boos. There’s a lot of hate in the world,” John said.
He says he wants to make the world a better place.
“I set up my foundation because I wanted to make amends for the years I was a drug addict. People with HIV are still stigmatized. The infection rates are going up. People are dying. The political response is appalling. The sadness of it, the waste.”

TweetGolfer calls Tiger Woods “selfish,” write calls him a “control freak”
Golfing great and monogamy not-so great Tiger Woods will talk publicly Friday for the first time since a sex scandal sent him into hiding three months ago.
Big question: does anyone actually care about what he has to say?
Perhaps, but it is clear that a lot of people are over Woods and his drama.
Golfer Ernie Els called Woods “selfish,” according to the Golf Week.
“You can write that. I feel sorry for the sponsor. Mondays are a good day to make statements, not Friday. This takes a lot away from the golf tournament.”
Friday is the third day of the Accenture Match Play tournament.
In an email to the AP Wednesday, Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg said the champ would not answer questions from the small group of reporters invited to hear him speak Friday.
Sports Illustrated senior writer Michael Bamberger blasted Woods in a recent column.
“
Tiger Woods is a world-class control freak, and in his re-entry into public life — which has showered him with wealth and opportunities and trappings that we can only imagine — he is picking up right where he left off. He controls all. He’s the same way with his golf ball. He tells it exactly what he wants it to do.
A guess is that Tiger is very angry. Angry at the National Enquirer for breaking the story of his infidelity. Angry at NBC — one of the Tour’s most reliable media partners! — for trotting out one of his babes on the Today show with golf buff Matt Lauer. Angry at the mainstream golf press for writing oh-that-Tiger-is-a-fraud stories. ” Bamberger writes on Golf.com.
Steinberg said Woods statement will continue the healing process.
“While Tiger feels that what happened is fundamentally a matter between he and his wife, he also recognizes that he has hurt and let down a lot of other people who were close to him,” Steinberg reportedly said in his email to the AP. “He also let down his fans. He wants to begin the process of making amends and that’s what he’s going to discuss.”

TweetNew “We are the World” verses classic version: which is better?
It has weirdo rap inserts, obvious computer-assisted singing and no Cindi Lauper or Tina Turner, but the remake of “We Are the World” is undeniably captivating.
Recorded earlier this months and involving more than 80 recording artist - including Jamie Foxx channeling Ray Charles - the song that benefits Haiti relief efforts is naturally being compared to the original version.
The 1985 hit was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and raised money for humanitarian aid efforts in Africa.
It featured nearly every iconic singer from the 1980s - Kenny Rogers, Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, Cyndi Lauper, Daryl Hall , Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Tina Turner…
The new version, unleased Friday during the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics, gives solos to several singers including Pink, Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Enrique Iglesias, Miley Cyrus, Fergie, Josh Groban, Justin Bieber, Tony Bennett, Lil Wayne, Usher, and Celine Dion doing shockingly well in Lauper’s old part.
But what do you think? Which do you like best?

TweetShould overweight people be requested to purchase two plane tickets?
Southwest Airlines messed with the wrong self-described fatty this time.
Director Kevin Smith’s Ding Dong fueled fight yesterday with the airline via his Twitter page and online diary continues to spark debate.
It all opens up a very important question, should fat people be forced to buy two seats or is this just another example of how they are oppressed in society?
Let’s face it, airplane seats aren’t exactly roomy and no one wants to be wedged in between the wall and a larger person. Still fat people are people too.
As a recap, the “Clerks” director says a pilot ejected him from a Southwest Airlines flight from Oakland to Burbank, Calif., saying he didn’t fit properly in a single seat, the Associate Press reports.
The airline has sort of apologized, but Smith and Southwest have still been battling it out online.
This is part of Smith’s reply to a Twitter user who said he “expected special treatment as a celebrity:”
a) I fit in the seat on an Oakland to Burbank Southwest Airlines flight
b) My lard didn’t spill over onto my fellow passengers
c) I could buckle the belt. I complied with the Southwest Airlines standards and yet they bounced me regardless.
So what you call “expecting celebrity treatment” I call “expecting what I paid for.” In other words, a seat; which I fit into. I am fat, yes; but not Too Fat To Fly (yet).
I don’t know how you’re somehow finding a way to paint this as a portrait of Hollywood ego and excess run amok, but you flatter me, madam: I’m not that guy. One can’t have a giant-sized ass and a giant-sized ego (must resist urge to make circa 2004 JLo joke ). Your anger with me over what’s very clearly a case of an airline f***ing up (then continuing to f*** up, compounding the f***-up with mistruths and half-information) is better saved for those who SEEK extra privilege. I don’t and certainly didn’t in this case. I wanted nothing more nor less than EVERY OTHER PASSENGER: to sit in the seat I paid for. That I fit into.*

TweetShould John Mayer be forgiven for using the N-Word?
John Mayer is very, very, very sorry he used the N-word in a Playboy interview.
Well that’s at least what he said in a string of tweets on Twitter.
Re: using the ‘N word’ in an interview: I am sorry that I used the word. And it’s such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself. It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there’s no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged
Should he be forgiven?
The “Your Body Is a Wonderland” singer has gotten slammed by everyone from rappers to blogs for using the N-word in the raw.
“Someone asked me the other day, “What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?” And by the way, it’s sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a n—-er pass. Why are you pulling a punch and calling it a hood pass if you really have a hood pass? But I said, “I can’t really have a hood pass. I’ve never walked into a restaurant, asked for a table and been told, ‘We’re full.’”
Mayer hasn’t addressed his other foot-way-in-your-mouth moments talking about all that sex he had with Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson, and how his manhood is a racist.
“I don’t think I open myself to it. My (penis) is sort of like a white supremacist. I’ve got a Benetton heart and a f—in’ David Duke (penis). I’m going to start dating separately from my (penis),” Mayer said in the interview noting that black women like Holly Robinson Peete Hilary from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” And Kerry Washington might have a shot with him.

Tweet“30 Rock” star taken to hospital following “misunderstanding”
It seems that Alec Baldwin and his daughter still have major issues to work out.
The Emmy award-winning actor was taken to a New York City hospital over an “misunderstanding,” according to online reports.

“This was a misunderstanding on one person’s part. Alec was quickly released from the hospital; he’s completely fine and will be at work today,” the actor’s spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik, said in a statement.
Baldwin who is set to host the Oscars with Steve Martin on March 7, has had a bumpy relationship with his daughter and ex-wife Kim Basinger.
Back in 2007, he drew considerable heat when a voice mail of him call the child a “rude, thoughtless little pig” was released.
Baldwin threatened to to straighten the girl out. He later blamed Basinger for the frustration he felt when he yelled at Ireland.
Baldwin has said his relationship with Ireland had since improved.
In his book, “A Promise to Ourselves,” Baldwin offered advice based on his own experience with divorce litigation and talked about how one parent can turn a child against another parent.

TweetO’Reilly and Stewart square off tonight in second part of interview
Jon Stewart and Bill O’Reilly squared off on “The O’Reilly Factor” Thursday night for the first time since 2004.
In the friendly fight, Stewart called O’Reilly the new voice of sanity on Fox News. He equated that to being the thinnest kid at fat camp.
“They have taken reasonable concerns about this president and this economy and turned it into full-fledged panic attack about the next coming of Chairman Mao,” Stewart said of Fox.
O’Reilly denied being a republic shill and defended his cohorts, calling Glenn Beck an everyman who simply spouts what he believes.
In a teaser for the second part of the interview set to air 8 p.m. tonight on FOX, O’Reilly hints that he will vet Stewart for vice president of the democratic party.

TweetBrittany Murphy’s death ruled accidental
The cause of actress Brittany Murphy’s death has been revealed.
The 32-year-old died of pneumonia complicated by anemia and prescription drugs the LA coroner’s office has ruled, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.
The death has been ruled accidental.
The coroner’s office declined to identify the type of drugs used, the newspaper said. It only indicated they were all prescription drugs.
There was speculation that the star of “Clueless” and “8 Mile” died of prescription drug use.
Her husband and mother told investigators she suffered flu-like symptoms prior to her death.
Her husband partly blamed Warner Brothers for Murphy’s December death and indicated he might sue.

TweetRumors of Miley Cyrus sister’s kiddy lingerie line devastates company
Nope, you can’t believe everything you see on a blog.
Rumors that Miley Cyrus’ plucky 9-year-old sister Noah is launching a kiddy lingerie line are bogus and a little bit more.
Annie Dugourd, co-founder of Ooh, La La! Couture, the company that was said to produce the line, called the rumors of a children’s lingerie line “an absolute lie,” according to CNBC.
Dugourd blamed the whole thing on Perez Hilton and said the her company only plans to make line of tutu dresses for 8-year-old actress Emily Grace Reeves, Noah’s best friend,
“It’s been devastating for our little company. We’re two stay-at-home moms who make tutu dresses. We would never do anything inappropriate,” Dugourd said.
The company’s web site is down for the count at the moment.
Noah Cyrus’ outfits, including a dominatrix Halloween costume, have raised eyebrows.
In a promotional video that has since been disabled, Noah dances around in a leopard print dress and fingerless gloves. Miley, 17, says she “loves” the range of clothes, according to Stuff.co.nz.
Here is a video from Noah and Emily’s YouTube.com channel. Towards the end they sing about how much they like money. It has a good tune.

TweetSwift backlash. Do you kinda hate Taylor Swift?
Kanye West is certainly crazy, but it seems more and more people think maybe he was sort of right at the MTV Video Awards: Taylor Swift might be OK, but she’s not the greatest thing since ice cream.
The Taylor Hater Nation is very large and - according to posts on blogs and Facebook groups like “I hate Taylor Swift,” - they are so over Taylor.
A MTV.com opinion piece, “Why You Shouldn’t Hate On Taylor Swift,” tried to justify Swift’s award winning ways, but readers weren’t having it.
“This article is exactly what annoys me the most about Taylor Swift, she is portrayed as a victim we are supposed to feel sorry for. Her boyfriend broke up with her - poor Taylor. Kanye interrupted her - poor Taylor. She has an awful performance on tv and people critiize her, how dare they - poor Taylor. She is an adult woman worth millions of dollars, with buckets of awards, she doesn’t need my sympathy,” one poster said.
The Haterations caused MTV to write a second item on Swift.
So what do you think? A lot of people obviously like Swift - her record sales are off the charts -, but are all the awards justified.

TweetJackson family: involuntary manslaughter charge a slap on the wrist
Michael Jackson’s family doesn’t think an involuntary manslaughter charge is tough enough and want Dr. Conrad Murray to face stiffer charges in the King of Pop’s death last summer.
In fact, the family would be “very upset” if Murray faces anything short of murder, Brian Oxman, the family’s lawyer, told CBS’ “The Early Show” Wednesday.
Oxman said Murray displayed recklessness in dispensing powerful drugs to help Jackson sleep, warranting a second-degree murder charge, the AP says.
The involuntary manslaughter charge prosecutors reportedly are seeking carries a four year maximum jail sentence.
“That is just a slap on the wrist, and a slap in the face, because Michael Jackson was someone who we knew was in danger of being brought to his knees, brought his death, by the use of these medications,” Oxman said.
Murray is expected to be charged as early as today.
What do you think? Should the charge be harasher?

TweetWho do you think should win the Oscar?
The Oscar nominations have been announced and believe it or not, the instant classic “Sorority Row” was shut out of the Best Picture category.
Right, right, surprise, surprise.
“The Blind Side” and nine movies that actually were very good did get the nomination for the award ceremony set to air March 7 on ABC.
As E Online points out, a few films and people got the cold shoulder, including “Star Trek,” “The Hangover” and “Michael Jackson.”
