Should communities expend funds on fireworks displays this year?

DALE FOSNAUGH

DALE FOSNAUGH, Beavercreek: “No. They’re in too bad a shape. A lot of communities are barely paying the bills. It’s OK if they get a sponsor for it, but not if they’re using taxpayer dollars.”

MONIKA DARTT

MONIKA DARTT, Dayton: “I feel that there should be fireworks. There should be some kind of activity, because not everyone has the money to go on vacations. And they’ve closed many other community activities.”

YVONNE GROOMS

YVONNE GROOMS, Jefferson Twp.: “The cost is not really the problem, it’s the safety of it. I don’t mind the cost, but I don’t want it to be dangerous.”

ALAYNA RAMSEY

ALAYNA RAMSEY, Beavercreek: “It’s a big deal. I try to go every year. I would miss them if they were canceled. I think it’s important, and I don’t think the economy should affect it.”

DEANNA FOSNAUGH

DEANNA FOSNAUGH, Beavercreek: “If they have excess money to pay for it, yes. But if they’re borrowing money from the state to pay other bills, no.”

Due to community fireworks budget cuts, a few of us plan on drinking beer and handling explosives on our own. In our group of military retiree’s, we have an EOD guy (Navy), an Aviation Ordnanceman (Navy), a Recon Marine, an Air Force A-10 pilot, and a retired Ohio State Trooper. Our celebration is illegal? Yes. What isn’t these days? It will soon be illegal to celebrate our Republic and freedom. We’ll be setting it all off on private land (farm) far away from law enforcement. Why? All in our group know the cost of freedom, how to celebrate the birthday of freedom, and dare the authorities to cancel our celebration due to “budget cuts”. Our “budget” allows for honoring the country that allows us to be free. After our display, we all might just howl at the moon and shoot out the lights. We know honor…and how to honor. It is a concept that is unknown to most of you, and your politician handlers.

Have fun, Boom!! If people want to blow things up, it’s perfectly OK with me. As long as they are safe and sane about it, and do it on their own property, who cares? It’s all-American fun.——Yes, somebody might get hurt, but life is inherently risky. I blew up lots of stuff as a kid, and still have ten fingers. HAPPY 4TH!!!!

Thank you “GO BOOM”. No one will get hurt…it’s a go for a spectacular “risky” (not!!…we have Navy ordnancemen in charge) celebration. We tease them that they’ve handled more explosives than women. All of us have been in combat…even our State Trooper. Big smiles are expected. Police/Sheriff need not show up…it’ll be one “heck” of a firefight if they do. Idiot politicians……

GO BOOM: The sun is setting. Thank you for letting us serve. We’re wiring it all up, teasing the “Squids” (Navy) unmercifully to do it right…and I think they’ll get even in a way that I hope doesn’t cause a ship to sink!! Have a good evening. Be safe and enjoy freedom.

Why? All the welfare rats have enough fireworks to light them from 12 PM (when they get up) until 6 the next morning (when they pass out). Since I live in Dayton I get a free show whether I want it or not. Why should taxpayers spend any more money???

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
