SCOTT GROW, Dayton: “I would, because I’ve been trying to lose weight. I’ve lost close to 50 pounds in two years. And it would also stop some false advertising about ‘light and healthy’ specials. A lot of people are more health conscious than previous generations were.”

CHRISTINE MORRIS, Painesville: “No. If I go out to dinner, I’m not caring too much about the calories. I don’t go out to eat that often, so when I do, I’ll eat what I want.”

DOLLIE KENNEDY, West Carrollton: “That would be good, because I’m always on a diet, and I want to know what I’m eating.”

Why help those, in a “free” (temporarily) society to determine what they should already know themselves. Oh….I forgot…someone else needs to figure it out before I know that it’s O.K. to eat it. Make sure that the brain isn’t used, that the gut reigns, and then “they” can blame it on someone else that they’ve gained weight/become “fat”. Let’s make society “convienient” and be able to blame someone else for your bad decisions. At the end of the day….you’re still fat. Idiots.

Many people might be surprised at how many servings/calories/cholesterols are in restaurant meals and popular take-out items. Maybe they would eat smaller portions if they were more educated. Items purchased in a grocery store have the calories listed, so why not restaurant dishes. It does seem like people who are overweight eat out more and eat the oversized portions. Consumers have the right to know what they are eating, and the burden should be on the people selling it. I think there’s a real market for fresh, heart smart drive through food. There are no stupid questions, only ignorant people who eschew information. What kind of an idiot wants a less convenient society?

It would be nice if restaurants would like to post the calories on menu’s. For the FDA to require restaurants to list information, big FAT NO. We’re talking about a past time, a pleasure that is to go out to eat. Calorie information should not be required by federal law. We do not need the federal government to tell us what to eat. Common sense please.

Again, the Federal Government wants to control Americans and the private sector. This is not about what you eat and your caloric intake. It is about your freedom. Wake up and smell the coffee people!

I used to be againt this but not any more. Eating out there are restruants that have dinner rolls (a singe serving ) of more than 250 calories. I should be able to know before I put it in my mouth what I am eating.

Many restaurants already have that information online on their websites. Anybody who wants that information can look it up. The nanny state is out of control already!

True there are soom who eat all consistantly everyday and most weekends. I am not one of those people. When I can afford to eat out it is a treat and usuaully something I have craved for a very long time. It doesn’t matter what the calories are I am going to eat it anyways just never every day or every month. Get a grip. I would think the goverment has more pressuring issues than the calories on a menu. Just like the smoking ban this is just a way to meddle more into our everyday life. Enough is enough. How much effect did the statement from the attorney general on the pack of cig’s have an effect? Zlich!

If the restaraunt wants to put calories on the menu as a service to their customers, fine. No way it should be required of them by the government. Businesses already have too many stupid regulations put on them already.

If you need to be told if something is low or high calory you will probably also need help to total the calory count for the whole meal. Enough of Fed intervention already.

The average American (i.e., read the posts above as a random representative sampling of the population)wallows in ignorance. Information provides insight so that an informed decision can be made. I read EVERY label when shopping so that I understand what I’m eating. Low fat, low sodium and non high fructose corn syrup. I buy local and not from corporations when possible. I weigh 165 pounds at six-feet tall and work out an hour a day. At 52, I’m in great shape and am disgusted by the 75% overweight and obese Americans that surround me. We should be ashamed of ourselves!

If restaurants want to post that information, great. If not, it should be their choice, not the government’s. People like myself that want to be informed about what they are putting in their bodies, won’t go there anyway. Most of that information can be found on the internet. When I am planning to eat out, I research the menu and nutritional content before I go! Sometimes you have to work a little if you care enough to keep yourself healthy!

As a type I diabetic that wears an insulin pump, I am more interested in the carbohydrates in the food that I am eating so I can tell my pump the amount of carbs I am eating so my pump can acurately give me the correct amount of insulin.

It seems to me that restaurants often serve 2-3 portions of something in one serving. I do take the other half home. It just seems to me that, as usual, a little awareness goes a long way and you will find yourself with healthier choices. It would cost very little for restaurants to place calorie cards on the tables for those who would like the information. I have no idea why this is seen as intervention by some people, unless you prefer being treated like fattened cattle. If you like, the FDA could create a voluntary assignation for restaurants who provide this info., like the energy star on appliances. I would also prefer to patronize restaurants with fresh, local ingredients. If nothing else, obesity is a real problem in this country, and mild efforts to help people help themselves would … (drum roll please) lower the cost of healthcare! Unless you object to that as well. And how about a little leadership in the private sector, while we’re at it.

Regulation costs money. The more you regulate the food industry the more cost that is passed on to the consumers (you and me). I think food costs are high enough. If we could get rid of most of the regulations, our need and dependence on our government would go down, and perhaps we could get rid of some of these government agencies that are overstepping and delving into our personal lives. You know, like telling you that you aren’t allowed to put salt on your food or that you should pay more for pop, stuff like that. You can’t regulate morality, and that’s exactly what this socialist government is trying to do, only it’s based on their set of what they think is moral. To a socialist, it is moral to kill an unborn baby, but it is immoral to put salt on your food. So there you go.

Our country already has an uncountable number of unnecessary laws. Let the free market handle this. If a customer wants to know calorie counts, patronize restaurants that give that information - or stay home and cook your own food.

If this administration really wants to cut back on expenditures, this would be a great place to start. Everyone has a “wish” list of things that would be “nice” to have, but we don’t need this, and it WILL cost us more money. It costs us money to pay FDA for regulating this, and it costs the consumers money every time they costs are passed down to them for these unneeded regulations. That’s my point. If we don’t need it, get rid of it. We don’t need more government intervention, we need less, and we need food to cost less, not more. It’s simple math. If you can’t afford it, get rid of it. Right now we can’t afford it.

Excuse me, if you cannot figure out what is good for you and what is not, then you should not eat out. Oh that’s right we all need the government to even tell us what to buy for weekly groceries. We don’t know how to even feed ourselves properly at home. That is why we need the government to feed our kids for us, because we are to stupid and government knows best. Who is this government entity that is made up of super human beings that are so intelligent they know what is proper to eat and so they tell us because these super human beings are so much smarter than us stupid regular people.

Progressives think that most Americans are stupid and need help being told what they are allowed to eat. This is America. In America, you are allowed to eat donuts if you want to, and you should not have to check with the Feds or anyone else before you eat that donut. Okay? One person called people that disagree with them “stupid” but what that person fails to realize is that they are the one that is stupid. Stupid is as stupid does. If you want to raise the cost of food, and make us pay for agencies to tell us what we are allowed to eat, to me that is as stupid as you get. These added regulations, requirements enforced by our government, will cost us, the consumers, more money because the business people are not going to “eat” these costs, they WILL pass them on to you and me. We are getting ready to know famine in this country. Laugh at me if you want, but the path we are on, the games the Democrats are playing with the budget, nobody is going to win. We don’t need more regulations that add cost to our foods. Let the progressives move to Venezuela, you will like it down there. They won’t let you watch Fox News there, and the government will protect you from everything down there. They will protect you from your greed because they will take all of your money. All progressives should invade Venezuela. Leave America alone. Pass me a donut. NEXT!

If I were President of the United States…I would get rid of all of the agencies that delve into people’s personal lives that are serving no purpose except for to add to the deficit. I would immediately stop all unnecessary spending on entitlement programs for people who aren’t Americans. I would put our troops around our borders, and secure them from terrorists and people trying to sneak into our country to get free entitlements. I would trash the hc bill, and replace it with help for only those Americans who need it. I would privatize almost every business since the government wastes too much money and doesn’t know how to save money. I would deregulate everywhere possible. I would not allow taxes to be raised. Funding for polarizing programs (like PP, NPR, etc.) would be ELIMINATED. Tax payers don’t need to pay for extras. I would make sure the elderly and the babies (born and unborn) are protected by our laws. I would investigate and prosecute anyone suspected of trying to overturn our Republic. I would fire AG Holder for being prejudiced and I would ensure justice is the same for all, no matter what color your skin is. No one would qualify for any entitlements based on color of skin.

Leslie, aren’t you an independent contractor employed by taxpayer dollars? Leslie’s got a big old butt. And so do most Americans. Laissez-faire is not working; it’s driving up healthcare costs. Not to mention the humanitarian aspect, which does exist, whether you like it or not. Do you feel that your intelligence is insulted by road signs? Feeling “controlled” by the fluoride in your water? Do you have any idea what life would be like w/o FDA and EPA regs? Try using a cost/benefit ratio before dismissing everything out of hand.

How many socialists does it take to write a 2500 page health care bill with hidden funding, with provisions for a death panel in case of emergency, like shortfall of money, and tax payer funding of abortions, and whatever else is snuck in there—like the old hag said “You have to pass it to find out what’s in it!” Time to reboot. Throw the hag, the wizard, and the tin men out on their butts. How dare you call the American public who disagree with your socialist agenda “extremists”! Your AG is prejudiced against white people and refuses to prosecute “people of color” but it’s okay for them to harrass voters to sway a presidential election. That’s right. No, we don’t need any more regulations. The FDA is suspect of usurping Americans’ authority. Time to reboot, people. Stop using the military as bargaining chips. Stop participating in UN’s Socialist agenda (R2P) and stand with our former ally, Israel against those who seek her annilation. They plan to attack Israel starting in May. Unions, left wing radicals, Code Pink, Socialists, and Communists unite against Israel. We need to stand with Israel. We need to impeach Obama. Stand up for Israel or we will surely perish. True Christians believe this. Fake Christians (like Obama who says he was collectively saved in Rev Wright’s church) are planning war against Israel. Cut government down to size so we can control our government instead of being afraid of it.

I think the FDA should monitor the number of glasses of water each person drinks every day. They recommend 3 8oz glasses minimum every day. Also monitor how many soda beverages are consumed during the same period. Also monitor the number of tooth brushings every day and whether or not 6 month dental exams are being done. Sound ridiculous? It is. Next stop is govt telling you which menu items can be ordered.

If nudging doesn’t work, the progressives have something else in store for us “uneducatable” Americans. It’s called death camps and elimination. Check out Bill Ayers (Obama’s buddy), yahoo The Weather Underground and undercover investigation video. It’ll open your eyes if you think Obama is innocently being manipulated by socialists. Obama has lied about his health care bill, he’s lied about tax payers having to foot the bill for abortions, and I expect to see flies flying out of his mouth next. 25 million Americans to be sent to “re-education” camps (like the Nazis did the Jews). And Israel is next on UN’s R2P list. That’s right. I’m sure Obama’s AG Holder or Congress will stop Obama from bombing Israel next, right? (NOT!!!)
