Oh, those ugly uniforms

BENGALS & BROWNS

HIT BY UGLY STICK

===LUDWIG AT LARGE has a pressing question for Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns fans: Which team has the uglier uniforms … the Bengals’ “Dreamsicles” (orange sherbet plus vanilla ice cream) or the Browns’ “Tootsie Rolls” (chewy chocolate treat)? Personally, I believe both uniforms are an embarrassment for the teams, their cities and the NFL.===

I hate to say it, but the Bengals have the uglier uniforms. By far. The Browns’ unis are merely a drab retro style with no logos on the helmets. Not great, but at least they don’t burn your retinas out. The guy that designed Cincy’s likely has a black velvet painting of Elvis adorning his dinning room wall. (On second thought, that’s an unfair insult to aficionados of Elvis kitsch.) And you know what, when Marvin Lewis came along he managed to make them worse. What really kills me, though, is that tiger stripes don’t necessarily have to look so garish. Like everything else, the Bengals executed the concept poorly. With all the skilled graphic designers in the world, surely one could be found to give the Bengals an adequate makeover. Could they at least make the shade of orange something less obnoxious?
