Another Chad (Jackson) hits town

EX-PATRIOT VISITS

CINCY FOR A TRYOUT

NOT ONLY A WIDE RECEIVER;

HE’S A KICK-RETURNER, TOO;

ARE 2 CHADS BETTER THAN 1?

===LUDWIG AT LARGE wants to know: Should the Bengals sign Chad Jackson? They’re looking at him as more than just a wide receiver, but a kick-returner, too. If the Bengals sign him, look for rookie Andre Caldwell (sprained foot) to go on Injured Reserve. One Chad’s enough. Are two too many?===

Carlos “Big C” Holmes of BigCProFootball.com — and a DaytonDailyNews.com blogger — is reporting that former New England Patriots wide receiver Chad Jackson will visit Cincinnati on Wednesday, Sept. 3, and work out for the Bengals.

Jackson, a 6-foot-1, 215-pounder and third-year veteran from the University of Florida, had a tryout with Oakland on Tuesday, but left town without a contract. A day earlier, the Raiders signed wide receiver Ashley Lelie to a one-year deal to help boost their downfield passing attack.

Jackson endured two turbulent, injury-riddled seasons in New England, spending most of his time locked inside head coach Bill Belichick’s doghouse.

He finally got released, ending a disappointing stint with the Patriots, who had high hopes for him. So high, they packaged their second- and third-round draft picks (Nos. 52 and 75) in a trade with Green Bay to move up 16 spots (to the Packers’ No. 36) to grab Jackson in 2006.

Jackson had 13 catches for 152 yards (11.7) with a long gain of 35 yards (for a touchdown) and 3 TDs in 2006 as hamstring and knee injuries ruined his rookie season.

He opened 2007 on the PUP list; was activated on Nov. 8; and didn’t catch a pass all season. Jackson’s nine kickoff returns netted 163 yards for an 18.1 average with a long gain of 39. He added two punt returns for a total of 7 yards.

Mike Reiss of The Boston Globe wrote: “I believe Jackson had not won over the trust of Tom Brady, plain and simple. Brady couldn’t rely on him to be in the right place consistently. Jackson had generated a lot of discussion … in recent months and I think it’s now fair to call that draft pick — and the investment of trading up to acquire Jackson — a poor decision.”

I’m sure Marvin Lewis would just love to have another guy on the team who can’t stay healthy. Anyway, think of the confusion over the name thing. In living rooms across the country it will go something like, “No, honey, that’s Chad JACKSON… Yes, that’s always been his name… You mean Ocho Cinco… No, nicknames are NOT allowed on jerseys… I have no idea what Chad Jackson’s nickname is… Yes, T.J. Houshmanzedah still has the same name…”

Who cares? I’m unloading all of my Bengals crap. If no one wants it, I’ll send a little of it each week to Mike Brown. Will more than likely burn it first. GO COLTS!

Way to go Pete….way to really contribute to the discussion. Let me guess, you were always one of the kids that sat in the back of the classroom? Will people ever realize that no one cares if THEY support this team or not? I hope the Bengals sign Chad Jackson. I still think he has potential and if he stays healthy he could help this team in some capacity. Chad Johnson….Chad Jackson…..don’t really see what is confusing about that…sorry! Oh, and by the way….We’ll see how long it takes people to forget that Chris Perry hasn’t been healthy sincer entering the league when he is ripping off 30 yard run after 30 yard run! WHO DEY!

Zane…. I’ve supported & suffered w/ this ship of fools for the past 20-some years & frankly, I’ve had enough! If you & others want to continue being part of the NFL’s laughing stock that is the Bengals, then go right ahead. Mike Brown doesn’t give a damn about winning, this city, or about you, just the money. Remove your blinders & take a real good look @ what’s actually going on w/ that circus. Then ask yourself if this organization is really trying to deliver something here. If you can come back w/ an absolute YES, then you still have your blinders on. And if you want to continue being associated w/ a franchise that doesn’t want to even be on par w/ below mediocrity, then be my guest & sit @ the head of the class, pal.

I agree with Zane i have been a Bengals fan along time and im going to cheer this team on. I have all kinds of Bengals stuff and would never ever think of giving it away. I have spent money and summer after summer with my Bengals. Why? Because they are my team! End of the story. Pete your the only fool.

The Pats let him go, admitting a mistake, plus Brady says he doesn’t want him. It makes sense we sign him. Doh! What’s worse? Being released or signed by the Bengals? Such a laughingstock organization.

Tom who? Brady needs to just try and figure out what truck hit him in the SuperBowl. I hope we do sign him we need a punt returner. You can not control who they sign and Henry may not be here long anyway.

Wow Troy…. you’re all over it, man. Take a good look @ see how many SB rings that “Tom Who?” has. Compare that to how many Cincy has. Uh…. THERE’S EXACTLY NONE! I may be the only fool on today’s discussion. However, I read & UNDERSTOOD what Chick relayed in his blog. Evidently, you or Zane haven’t. (refer to my comment to him about the blinders). The CH re-signing is EXACTLY the final reason among many that I’m jumping off of the sinking ship of fools that is the Bengals organization. Keep giving them your money & summers. I’ll keep both of mine & put ‘em to much better use. GO COLTS!

Pete, you left a long time ago, so why are you still here? Nothing to discuss with the Colts? We’ll know you’ve given up on the Bengals when we stop reading your whiney drivel. Why do you stay here trying to convince everyone else to be a fair weather fan like yourself? We don’t care if you leave! You shouldn’t care if we choose to stay, like you chose to do for 20 years.

Pete, you might be a really nice and smart guy, but if you quit on your team, you are no better than Bobby Petrino. We don’t need you and I doubt any team would would want you. Seems like the only thing you can’t quit doing is leaving comments about a team you don’t follow anymore.

I saw why not. Chapman and Holt are not doing anything and if the man can return kicks, great. BTW, no way they put Caldwell on IR because of a mild sprain.
