Next Bengal: Shaun Alexander

EX-SEATTLE SEAHAWK

TELLS ASSOCIATED PRESS

SIGNING IS IMMINENT

FAMILY IN NORTHERN KY.

IS TEASING HIM ABOUT

NAME CHANGE: ‘TRES SIETE’

Is Shaun Alexander about to become the newest member of the Cincinnati Bengals?

It sure sounds like it.

The free agent tailback, who was dumped by the Seattle Seahawks in April, told the Associated Press in Seattle on Friday, Sept. 5, that he believes his signing is “imminent.”

Alexander has worked out for the Bengals, New Orleans Saints, and the Denver Broncos have also shown interest.

Alexander attended Boone County High School in Florence, Ky., and the University of Alabama. His extended family in Northern Kentucky wants him to come back home …

… With a new name … in honor of his No. 37 uniform number.

“They want me to be Tres Siete,” Alexander told the Associated Press.

I would much rather have Shaun Alexander at this point than Rudi.

How is a former MVP with tremendous leadership the same quality as Rudi? Rudi didnt even try this preseason. Shaun comes into Cincy, gets 15 carries per game for between 3.7 and 4 yards per run. Much better than the runs Rudi would have. With Willy gone, they are in desperate need of a leader.

I’m curious to know if he would be displacing one of the trio of Perry, Watson and DD Dorsey? That would have a lot to do with how I felt about this decision.

Remember that new-found confidence seen in Chris Perry thanks to Rudi’s departure? POOF! I can’t get excited about this signing either. Who will the Bengals cut to make room for Alexander, DeDe Dorsey? That will hurt special teams.

Every NFL team has had a chance to sign Alexander for months. They all passed on him including the Lions who just signed Rudi. Alexander is over the hill. Old running backs don’t make miracle comebacks.

Did someone just say, “geter done for Jesus”??? I’m pretty sure the savior has better things to do than care about the Bengals. Unless you mean Touchdown Jesus on I75.

I would welcome Shaun to the team. It would be great to get a local guy who wants to be here. I also thought I read on the Bengals website that Watson has some kind of injury, thought I’m not sure of how serious it is.

If the Bengals get Alexander they would most likely cut Coats, keep 2 TE and 5 RB with Maui’a as the primary FB

I think the Bengals are thinking about signing him because it would be an insurance policy for Chris Perry getting injured again. He is a probowl player that states he will sign for the league min. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I wouldn’t sign him unless someone else gets hurt. Watson is listed as probable with a hamstring injury I wasn’t aware of, but there’s a whole lot we find out we’re not aware of as we go along supporting the Bengals.
