Source: WR Henry will play at Dallas
WHO GETS ‘KNIFED’ WHEN
HENRY RETURNS? COATS,
HOLT TOP 2 CANDIDATES
A source within the Cincinnati Bengals organization tells LUDWIG AT LARGE that wide receiver Chris Henry will play against the Dallas Cowboys at Texas Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is at 4:15 p.m.
Henry is on a one-week roster exemption, meaning he can practice this week without counting against the club’s 53-man active roster.
I believe tailback DeDe Dorsey will be placed on the Injured Reserve list with a right hamstring injury, and that tailback James Johnson will be promoted off the practice squad to fill Dorsey’s roster spot.
But the question remains: Who gets “knifed” when Henry gets activated?
My top two candidates: Tight end/fullback Daniel Coats and wide receiver Glenn Holt.
Coats is a third-string tight end behind Reggie Kelly and Ben Utecht. The presence of fullback Reagan Maui’a is a double whammy that makes Coats expendable.
If Holt leaves, it’s a sign that rookie Andre Caldwell is ready to assume the role of No. 1 kickoff returner.
I’d hate to see either guy get released because they’re both princes in gym shoes, but somebody has to go to make room for Henry.
If the club is hellbent on Henry playing at Dallas, a roster move must be made by Saturday at 4 p.m. (Eastern time) to clear a spot for Henry.
What makes Henry so valuable? He’s a deep threat with outstanding size and top-end speed who will stretch defenses, forcing the safeties to play back, opening up more room for T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Chad Ocho Cinco and Ben Utecht.
I’ve been hard on Henry, whose five arrests have caused me numerous migraines. But the dude is talented. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of impact he’ll have on the offense, which has been nothing short of awful.
We knew the young defense would be a work in progress under new coordinator Mike Zimmer. But nobody had a clue the veteran offense would be this lousy.
I lay the blame for 0-4 at the feet of the club’s management, coaches, scouts and players … especially Bob Bratkowski’s offense, which is too predictable, too lethargic and too hard on the eyes.

I’m sorry, but I do not see how you can get rid of Glen Holt. The guy is having a great year as a kickoff returner. Do you really think we can replace that production with an unproven rookie, Chick? Some of your posts really get under my skin.By VoHo

Could Henry replace Mike Brown or “Brat” Bratkowski? Both of them are totally ineffective and, it seems, would not be missed. Then, the team would not have to deal with the headache known as Chris “Con-Excon-Futurecon” Henry.By Cincylud

Henry will have minimal impact on the offense. Why? 1- He’s not in football shape; 2- his timing with the offense is out-of-cink (remember Chad & TJ during the last 4 weeks!); 3- the offenswive line does not give the QB (whoever it is) time to deliver the ball; 4- Henry is not Marvin’s guy, Marvin doesn’t want him here and is just following orders; 5- Henry is a disruptive presence in the lockerroom. Hope that’s enough- I could go on….By Cincylud

I actually think that Henry will help the Bengals offense quite a bit by just being on the field. The reason that Chatman has had so many balls thrown at him this year is because he really isn’t much of a threat and is usually in single coverage against a linebacker. Having Henry back will force defenses to use a lot more single coverage outside.By larry

6)the line has to block long enough for someone to throw the ball and get it to him. 7)jason garrett needs to open up the offensive playbook.oh wait, wrong team! team…sorry!By Phil

Chick thanks for pointing out the biggest problem in Bob Bratkowski and his inability to call plays. Also I think the offensive line is playing terribly. When an entire unit is doing terrible it is easy to see the O-line as a problem.By Frank Mueller

I see none of your commentors have blamed the players for the 0-4 start. It’s everyone but them. After all it’s not the players’ fault they can’t block on offense. TJ and Chad are super stars and didn’t need to paractice with the team in the off season or in summer camp. Odell was so good, he decided to ban himself from football and stick to liquor. Jeremi Johnson decided to eat himself out of football, and Chris Henry was Chris Henry. I wonder if these guys played a hand in the Bengal’s slow start. Oh, and don’t forget, Marvin Lewis who was hailed by sports writers and fans as an up and coming football genius when he was hired, has forgotten everything he knows about football. Now instead of adding another offensive weapon in the guise of Chris Henry, Bengal whiners prefer to wallow in misery and blame Mike Brown for the 0-4 start. As for last Sunday, I had a great time watching the game down here in sunny (it rained) Ft. Myers. My wife and I tailgated with my mother-in-law, Ruth, her friend Jim, and my brother-in-law Dan. And we did it all at the Sandy Parrot, famous for it’s $1 Parrot drafts and $3 chicken wings (dozen). To top it off, we even sat next to some die hard Browns fans. Keep up the good work Chick. You’re our link to Bengal football.By George

Thanks Chick for asking Marvin who is responsible for this debacle. I pumped my fist so hard because you took the words right out of my mouth. He responds by laughing? What the h&ll is funny at 0-4? You are exactly right that scouting is responsible. 2007 Draft: Pittsburgh drafted LaMarr Woodley 2nd round 46th pick, and Ny Giants drafted Jay Alford 3rd round 81st pick! Does that name ring a bell! Sacked Tom Brady in the Super Bowl and same team that was all over Carson! Cincy took the 2nd round pick and drafted Kenny Irons??? 2008 draft 2nd round, 15th pick, Cincy takes Jerome Simpson? Where is he? Philadelphia, same round, two picks later draft Desean Jackson! Round 3, 14th pick, Cincy takes Pat Sims? Chicago, same round, 13 picks later takes Marcus Harrison. Its like we draft “project players” while winning teams draft impact players.By PREACHER,FRANKLIN,OHIO

Henry is in football shape, my friend has been training him these past 4 weeks at there complex in Convington, KY. He says Henry is actually a really nice guy and admitted he was hanging around the wrong crowd.By Rick in Dayton

Get rid of Marvin Lewis. He’s lost control of the club and there’s not enough room for him and his ego in Cincinnati. Good riddance to an inept coach.By Rick in Dayton

Glenn Holt is the only thing the Benglas have going for them right now. He gets them great field position and the offense can’t capitalize on it. He is doing better than most kick returners in the NFL. They would be insane to let him go.By Blake

Its hard to watch the offence (not a typo), the defense looks like it is slowly but surely improving, but I have a GREAT idea to fix it all…Billick. Him and Marvin worked magic in Baltimore a few years ago, why not hook him up as O-C and let him run that side of the ball. Just think about it. Of course some ofyou may need to think a little harder than others. Good Luck Whodey fans coming from one of your own.By Blake

Oh yea…Holt and Chatman stays. Coats is out. Jeremi looses some weight, a lot of weight. Run some split back formations with Perry and (insert healthy rb here). AND O-LINE, KEEP THE D OFF OF CARSON, please.By Melanie

I think they would be crazy to bench G.Holt he’s one of the few players that has proved himself this year but the sad part is thats usually the one’s that get let go.By William

Henry can stretch defenses, this is true. But if the O-line cant stop the Dallas pass rush, what good is his speed?By John

Until the OL can stop QB sacks, I would bench Palmer for his health.(2003) However, if Henry is going to play, then Palmer should be at QB in order to make Chris more useful. All this should do is further enhance the Bengals position for the First draft pick next year! (is there a side battle goin’ on here; MB vs. ML)?By Ridnaway

I’m a Kentuckian. I’m also a UK fan. When Rick Patino went to UofL, it took me a minute, but I got over it. I wonder how the Pittsburg Squeelers would feel about Cowher in Cincy…? Yet another idea!By William

Nobody seems to mention the big money D-lineman (i.e. Peko, Thornton, Geathers, Odom) and their lack of pass rush or penetration on runs. One sack from these guys in 4 games! And we all know how sad our scouting/personnel department is, but the three moves they made on cutdown day that have already come back to haunt us: cutting Willie, our O-line play has been atrocious, cutting Rudy, Perry 4 fumbles in 4 games and a 2.9 yd avg, and i think with Deltha Oneal, we could have beaten the Giants, as our secondary was comprised of waiver wire guys and rookie free agents. Thanks Marvin!By Buckeye Proud

Offseason: Marvin stays. Brat goes (finally). O-Line gets replaced/upgraded. Chad Ocho gets traded. TJ gets a new contract. Mike Zimmer takes a big step in the right direction with the defense. Chris Henry doesn’t get in trouble. Benson is the best back we have seen. Chris Perry gets injured and is lost forever. Hmmm. Sounds like a dream, right??? Please pass me the shrooms….By Redskin Fan

This Bungles team is absultely pathetic. To add the likes of Cedric Benson..and Chris Henry…How desperate this team has become. I’m a Redskin Fan first and Bungles fan second..I thought Dan Snyder had the worst reputation for picking up over paid under acheivers.. Srry guys…I agree with others here..Henry won’t catch a single pass this weekend..and Benson…well…he may as well join the other losers on this club. I feel bad for you people, the fans that pay your hard earned money year in and year out to get, all of this. I do guarantee you…you are not standing alone..It could be worse, you could be a Rams fan.By Redskin Fan
