LB Hodge called up; CB Castille is out

CASTILLE ‘KNIFED’

IN FAVOR OF THE

VETERAN HODGE

It’s a brutal business, the NFL.

If Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Simeon Castille didn’t know it before, he knows it now.

Castille, the non-drafted rookie free agent from Alabama, got waived on Friday, Oct. 3, when the Bengals decided to promote veteran linebacker Abdul Hodge off the practice squad.

Hodge (6-0, 236), a third-year player from Iowa, is expected to pack a punch in coverage on special teams.

Hodge entered the NFL in 2006 as a third-round draft choice of Green Bay.

He played in eight Packers games in ’06 and was on Green Bay’s Reserve/Injured list (knee) last season.

He played in all four Packers 2008 preseason games (20 tackles) and was waived by Green Bay on Sept. 1. He was signed to Cincinnati’s practice squad on Sept. 16.

Castille, the son of former Tampa Bay and Denver cornerback Jeremiah Castille, played in Games 1-4 this season, posting six tackles in limited action.

So we’re down to 4 corners now and one of them is coming back from injury. Joseph, Jones, Hall and the recent signee. Do most teams have only 4 corners?
