Bengals don’t lead, they follow
BENGALS HAVE PLAYED
426 MINUTES, 21 SECONDS;
THEY’VE HELD A LEAD FOR
ONLY 43:20 THIS SEASON
Forget the fact the Cincinnati Bengals rank dead last in the NFL in offense, averaging a mere 225.6 yards a game.
Forget the fact they have scored only 98 points in seven games — a whopping 14.0 average.
Forget the fact they’re 0-7 for the sixth time in the 41-year history of the franchise — joining the great 0-7 squads of 1978, ‘91, ‘93, ‘94 and 2002.
Forget the fact the Pittsburgh Steelers have won eight straight games at Paul Brown Stadium (including the Jan. 8, 2006, wild-card playoff game).
Forget the fact the defense plays well UNTIL IT HAS TO PLAY WELL.
Forget the fact the Bengals have been to the playoffs ONCE IN 18 YEARS.
The most stunning statistic of all comes courtesy of the Elias Sports Bureau, hunkered down in New York City.
DRUM ROLL, PLEASE …
In seven games covering 426 minutes, 21 seconds — including the overtime (6:21) against the New York Giants — the Bengals have owned a lead for only 43 minutes, 20 seconds.
Now that’s a big ol’ OUCH!

From Bob Simzik’s column: “The Steelers completed the junior varsity portion of their schedule Sunday with a flexing of their defensive and offensive muscles that led to a walloping of the woebegone Cincinnati Bengals.” This is why the Bengals have not had the lead let alone a win. Getting pounded by the Steelers for the umpteenth time isn’t going to motivate Mike Brown to cede power. Steelers fans travel in droves, fill up PBS, and pound down truckloads of concessions, lining Mike’s pockets. It is IMPOSSIBLE to humiliate the man via losing. He is purely money-motivated and Steelers’ fans meet his needs just fine.By John

All the king’s horses and all the king’s men… and all this chatter is not going to get MB’s attention. He is still sucessful as long as the stadium seats remain full on game day!
