LB Jim Maxwell’s two-week salary info

A VERY COOL ‘71-LARGE’

FOR TWO WEEKS OF WORK

An E-mailer asked me to cough up how much money newly-signed Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Jim Maxwell will earn for two weeks of work.

A fifth-year veteran’s minimum salary is $605,000 based on a 17-week regular season (16 games plus a bye).

All you do is pro-rate it over a two-week span.

So … Maxwell will gross $71,176 in earnings — two paychecks at $35,588 each.

Of course, that’s before taxes. Plus, his agent gets 3 percent of the gross ($2,135).

Still, a handsome payday for the Gardner-Webb stud.

That would buy me a few Hav-A-Tampa Vanillas, a couple of brisk Rolling Rocks and several two-liter bottles of Cotton Club Less Sweet Ginger Ale.

Chick, Thanks for the info!! Nothing wrong with a couple of cold Rolling Rocks! I’ll tell you what if the Bengals win both remaining games you meet me at Cold Beer D/T and lunch is on me. Little trivia for you (no fair looking on the web) Name for me the other Bengal who attended Gardner-Webb?

The other Bengal from G-DUB? Lay the name on me! He may have been drafted, but never appeared on a 53-man roster ‘cuz he’s not on the alumni list!

Ok so I cheated a little…Derrick Fenner (who attended North Carolina after Gardner-Webb) played for the Bengals from 92-94. I guess you could say he was one of the first “crimminals” on the roster.

Big Burrito: I like it. Ever since Jimmy Maxwell Smart joined the Bengals, I’ve been in touch with his Aunt Susan and Aunt Betsy in the Carolinas. Great gals! The blog has put me in touch with some awesome peeps. Happy Holidays. Chick

Seems Derrick Fenner was a prognosticator. …So when Fenner reached free agency’s door, he bolted. I was going to leave,'' Fenner said.I was definitely looking to be on a playoff team, a Super Bowl contender. You’re talking about a 15-year rebuilding program in Cincinnati. Man rule #2: No flavored cigars. Hav-A-Tampas are perfect straight up.
