What in the world is an OTA?

It stands for Organized Team Activity.

Really, it’s a fancy expression for on-field coaching sessions.

And they’re voluntary.

The NFL allows clubs to hold 14 OTA days during the offseason, and no contact work is permitted.

In the past, the Bengals have conducted 12 voluntary on-field coaching sessions for players at Paul Brown Stadium and used two other OTA days for team-bonding activities … a trip to Kentucky Speedway, Reds game, bowling outing, movie, etc.

This year, all 14 OTAs will be on-field coaching sessions — closed to the public, of course.

Here’s the schedule:

• May 19-21, 26 and 28: On-field coaching sessions (OTAs).

• June 2-4, 9, 11 and 15: On-field coaching sessions (OTAs).

• June 18-20: Full-squad mandatory minicamp.

Players and coaches report to Georgetown (Ky.) College for training camp on July 30.

Looks like Andrew Whitworth is the starting left tackle for the Bengals this year and Andre is the starting right tackle. Carson looked sharp on his throws and it looked like he and the new receivers are already on the same page. I know it’s football in shorts but it’s football none the less and it’s all we have right now.

Chick, for as much as we can tell from football in shorts, what can you tell us about these 3 questions? 1) Will the O-line be an asset or liability? 2) Is the defense poised for a jump into the Top 10? 3) Is Chris Henry motivated enough to make a serious run at Chad’s starting spot?
