Palmer won’t be at OSU-USC game

Ohio State football fans have long memories.

They remember Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer going on a Los Angeles radio station last year and poking fun at the Buckeyes, who eventually lost to USC 35-3 at the Coliseum in front of 93,607 spectators on Sept. 13.

Palmer said he planned to be at Ohio Stadium when his Southern Cal Trojans face the Buckeyes on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m. in a nationally-televised game on ABC.

Carson Palmer’s broken nose/Will Buckeyes bloody his beloved Trojans on Sept. 12?

Well, folks, it ain’t happenin’.

The Bengals open the 2009 regular season at home against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m.

Palmer will be forced to watch the game with his USC teammates in a Cincinnati hotel room.

“It will be exciting to be an SC fan and with all the SC guys we have on the team out here in Cincinnati now to be rooting against the entire state of Ohio. It will be fun,” Palmer said.

MEMORIES OF 2008

(Here’s what Palmer said a year ago:)

His message to Ohio State fans: “Fight on!” That’s the USC Trojans’ rallying cry and the title of the school’s fight song. When Palmer arrived from California, a present was waiting for him: “The Winners Manual: For the Game of Life,” authored by Ohio State coach Jim Tressel.

“One of my neighbors left the book on my doorstep,” Palmer said. “I didn’t have a chance to read it. I don’t know if I’ll ever get around to it. but it was kind of a funny gesture.”

Palmer, who said he “cannot stand the Buckeyes” in a recent interview on an L.A. radio station, said he’s not worried about a few boos from Buckeyes fans at Paul Brown Stadium.

“I don’t care,” he said. “If people are going to take it that serious, that’s up to them. It was all in good fun. Like i said, I live in Ohio. It doesn’t mean I have to be a Buckeye fan. I went to the University of Southern California and I’m going to cheer for them. I have a lot of pride in that school just as they have pride in their school.

“People take a lot of things too seriously and it’s just another thing that kind of got blown out of proportion. I’m going to keep having fun with it. if people are going to be upset about it, that’s their decision. But I’m going to keep having fun with it and hopefully celebrate.”

I am a proud Miami U grad! Because I went to Miami (a State of Ohio funded university), I KNOW that OSU is not THE ONLY Ohio state university… just one of many. We are not all Luckeye fans

I love the Buckeyes and the Bengals. His comments didn’t make me mad last year. He graduated from USC after all.

That’s OK Carson. I’m a Buckeye living in Los Angeles. You can “fight on” if you want but It’ll always be “battle Cry” baby
