Say goodbye to Castro
Infielder Juan Castro was designated for assignment Monday and infielder Jerry Hairston Jr., another of manager Dusty Baker’s compatriots in Chicago, was called up from Class AAA Louisville.
Castro, who played all four infield spot in a Gold Glove manner, was 0 for 10 so far this season. Hairstone was hitting above .400 at Louisville.

Wow.. another ex Cubbie flop called up. Now if only we can cast Patterson away. That guy is HORRID and always has been. Will he go 0 for 100 before Rusty Dusty decides to stop playing favorites? Bring up Bruce, and bench Dunn. He is washed up too. Pathetic average and no homeruns. What a waste.

Dusty Baker has already ruined this team. When will it end?

Marc, Shouldn’t there be a question mark after your first sentence? Hal is a class act. That’s why we read this.

Marc: You owe Hal an apology - how bitter and rude of a human being you must be to tee off on someone’s vision impairment. How dispicable. Look that up.

Marc, Hal McCoy has forgot more about baseball today, than you will learn or know in your lifetime. I suggest that if your life revolves around correcting others, then you should focus your energy elsewhere. Perhaps you should volunteer to tutor young students in spelling, typing or computer technology. If you cannot enjoy the insights and information provided by one of the very best baseball writers in America then I suggest that you get your information elsewhere.

Sheesh, Marc, that’s pretty harsh. 1) this is a blog, not a newspaper article, and therefore probably doesn’t have someone proofreading it(?). 2) my vision’s fine, and I make typos on my own blog all the time. So what? 3) I didn’t realize that Hal had a visual impairment until he was brave enough to share that on his blog. I might not always agree with Hal’s take on the Reds, but good on him for battling past his disability and doing what he enjoys doing for a living. -j

this is a smart move for the short-time. I’m sure we will see Bruce after June 1st. Too bad we have to wait till then just to save some money. Patterson isn’t cutting it. Still another lefthanded bat in Bruce.

Doesn’t Hal mean Hairston, not Hairstone, as he wrote on his blog. Time to retire, Hal. Whose vision is worse, his or his editors?

Even though Castro is a great glove, it makes great sense to move on to a right handed offensive player, and he can do more things, such as; steal bases, etc.

While Hairston still isn’t the big bat we need coming off the bench he certainly is better than Castro.

Good move.On a stuggling offensive team there is no room for a 35 year old defensive specialist with a very weak bat.

Hmmm, I hear Sammy still needs a job. Maybe that’s the big right-handed bat Dusty wants to bring in. Did I mention before that Dusty was the worst move during the off season? Oh, yeah, I did.
