Votto 0 for 2 in Sarasota rehab debut

An on-the-spot report from my good friend Boomer Denis of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune on Joey Votto’s rehab debut Thursday for the Sarasota Reds:

As planned, Votto played six innings in a game the Reds lost to Clearwater, 2-0.

Batting third and playing first base, Votto walked on five pitches in the first inning. He was called out on strikes on four pitches in the fourth and popped out to left in foul territory in the sixth.

Defensively, he had 10 putouts and caught a hard line drive. He also made a nice stretch toward the mound to complete a double play.

Sarasota is off this weekend due to the Florida State League All-Star game, but Votto might play some Gulf Coast Rookie League intrasquad games over the weekend.

Votto did not talk with the media either before or after the game.

Having lost my father last spring, and knowing Votto went thru the same thing late in the summer, that was my first thought when he left due to “stress”. Grief can hit hard and hit anytime. Whatever the reason he’s out, I wish him the best and I hope he knows that he has fans on his side that just want him back happy and healthy. Not all of us are conspiracy theorists.

Horsey Head - you’re not being “rough on the kid” because frankly you are a nobody spewing moronic posts on a blog. You also use really bad logic (such as HGH is undetectable, therefore Joey Votto is using it because he left the Reds for a month) … as far as he “brought this on himself” … only a true horse could be that dumb … I still think you and Aaron should meet and figure this Joey Votto thing out for us … teach us Horseyman, teach us.

He brought this on himself? Because what, he didn’t feel like sharing his personal problems with you and every other nimrod out there who feel entitled? Get over yourself. Karma, if it exists, will certainly turn out to be a drag for you, Harry, but at least you’ll have brought it on yourself. Go, Karma!

In 2008 JV hit 24 HR in 585 PA = 4.10% of HR to PA. In 2009 JV has hit 8 HR in 149 PA = 5.3% of HR to AB In 2007, JV hit 4 HR in 89 PA = 4.449% You think he is on steroids and I think you’re on heavy medication.

We’ll have to wait and see when Joey the Magnificent comes back to see. If he doesn’t hit many homers it would raise eyebrows… Before his ear infection/meltdown he was hitting home runs in bunches.

Horses are dumb animals … right Harry, Joey took 4 weeks off and slimmed down because of steroids because if Arod, who tested positive and admitted it, lost weight, then all future weight losers also are using steroids. Nice logic - you should get with Aaron and work your stupid conspiracy theories together - with Aaron’s retarded idea about Joey’s agent telling him to walk away for more money and your stupid steroid hint, we could have field day seeing what you two could come up with together. Hook up with him and blog your top ten list of Joey’isms.

Joey’s been nervous or something…maybe depressed about losing his father. Sometimes that stuff lands emotionally later than sooner. Don’t know. But A-Rod’s been busy and staying up late servicing Madonna and she’s very demanding!

Will Joey ever talk to the media again??? Might be too stressful answering questions.. Someone said Joey was noticably lighter. So is A-Rod. Wonder why???

Great news about Joey. Elsewhere in the major leagues tonight, in Kansas City, Luke “Cy” Hochevar started for the Royals. You remember him, the pitcher who befuddled the Reds impatient hitters - he threw only 80 pitches that night to Dusty Baker’s most excellent lineup. Well, tonight, facing the light-hitting Arizona D-Backs, he only threw 94 pitches. Of course he only pitched 4 innings, gave up 9 hits, 6 earned runs and saw his ERA climb to 6.61. Sure, the Reds don’t need to make any moves. Things are just fine the way they are now.

0-2? Sounds good enough to bat lead off for the Reds.
