Beverly Hills Chihuahua: YIPE! YIPE! YIPE!

So has anybody seen the trailer for Beverly Hills Chihuahua yet? If so … I’m so sorry.

And lest anyone think I’m being unconscionably mean to a kids’ movie, rest assured, I am not alone. The New York Times wrote this very amusing story about the mortified reactions several people have posted on YouTube.

One aspect the story doesn’t go into detail about is who made this masterpiece to be. The director is Raja Gosnell. He has more than a passing familiarity with cinematic dogs, having directed both Scooby Doo movies. (I’ll let you decide if that’s a double entendre or not.) The cast includes Drew Barrymore, Salma Hayek, George Lopez, Cheech Marin and Edward James Olmos, who should all know better.

One of the writers is Jeffrey Bushelll, who has written TV shows like Zoey 101 and What I Like About You. The other writer is Analisa LaBianco, who has no other credits, so I’m going to guess she’s 3 years old and needed Bushell to get her ideas in script format.

This is my favorite of the YouTube reactions. Clip may be NSFW, depending on your boss’ tolerance for bleeped language.

Comment away, if you’re still conscious after seeing the trailer.

Hey Laurie and Stefany, ever stop to think that the negative stereotypes that this movie contains might actually be a BAD thing for children?? Unless of course, they already harbor these prejudices thanks to their parents who don’t hesitate to take them to view such trash disguised as film. Shame, shame on Disney for creating such garbage in Walt Disney’s name…

I saw this movie over the weekend and it’s pawsitively wonderful! It’s great for adults and kids alike. It’s not what people think. It actually pokes fun at pampered pooches but in a very cute and non-offensive way. It’s hilarious and full of good messages (like rescuing dogs from shelters). I don’t know why people write about things they don’t know. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it! I think it will become a Disney classic. At least I hope so. I’ll be back to see it again and again…I highly recommend this film.

I’m not one for talking dog movies, and I don’t have kids, so I just chalked this up to be another kids movie with talking animals. However, my 2 chihuahua’s & I were invited to the Beverly Hills premiere & I have to say, it is an entertaining movie! (and I am certainly recommending it to my sister for her 8 & 4 year olds!)

Well, it isn’t the worst trailer on the net. I just saw the trailer for Disaster Movie, which looks much, much worse.

Until you’ve been owned and loved by a Chihuahua, you’ll simply never understand.

Being a dog fan, I’ll go see it. I actually think it looks funny. And the reaction in the theater when I saw the trailer was laughter, not a groan as a previous poster said they experienced. I have spoken to several people, all dog lovers, who want to see it. At least it seems to be more of an original concept than 98% of the films being released.

I saw the trailer for this before Wall-E, and the theater reaction, along with my own, was a giant “GROOOOAAAANNNN” at the end. It was bad. I foresee this movie being this year’s “Bratz.” In fact, the trailer reel for Wall-E got steadily worse as the Disney movies started showing themselves. All I can say is thank goodness they have Pixar to save their behinds.
