Watched any holiday movies yet? Which?

With one major holiday past us, I was wondering: What holiday movie do you tend to watch first, when the season starts?

Since there aren’t many Thanksgiving movies, I spent Thansksgiving morning watching Miracle on 34th Street (the original, of course) - a Christmas movie to be sure, but the film does start out with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, so that seems like the best one to pop in first.

What about you? What holiday movie kicks off the season for you? If there is no traditional starter, how about this: What holiday movie do you see more than once in a single season? That answer for me is probably A Christmas Story, just because that filmed-in-Ohio staple, which turns 25 this year, has become as ubiquitous as It’s a Wonderful Life once was.

Here again is the TV holiday movie schedule and my roundup of current movies in theaters and on DVD. Tell me what, if anything, you’ve seen so far.

PS: Since the blog picture shows Charlie Brown and Linus, and since I aim to be all-inclusive, go ahead and name some TV shows if you feel so inclined. For this lifelong Peanuts fan, A Charlie Brown Christmas is essential viewing.

Haven’t watched anything yet, but The Polar Express, A Christmas Story, and the Grinch (the original animated version, not that horrific Jim Carrey monstrosity) will be tops on my list. Some great ones were also mentioned here. Christmas Vacation is one of my favorites. And even though it doesn’t count as a “holiday” movie in the strictest terms, I love watching Planes, Trains, and Automobiles this time of year.

First movie watched was The Polar Express last night. Perfect for my five-year-old.

So many movies - so little time! I do love Tim Allen’s Santa Clause - adore the elves - ha! I also watch White Christmas, Miracle on 34th (original - love little Natalie Wood!), and It’s a Wonderful Life. I just watched A Christmas Story for the first time last year, and I think it may be on the annual list now! :)

I have to watch Christmas Vacation every year. I tend to watch it over and over again while I decorate and wrap presents! It’s so hilarious and never loses it’s punch.

I caught “The Santa Clause” with Tim Allen the other night and forgot how cute of a film it is. For me, the holiday season will truly kick off this Saturday morning when I watch “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” on DVD and then decorate my yard. After that, I plan to watch Charlie Brown and Rudolph with my girlfriend and her daughter. We might pop in “Miracle on 34th Street” too. (The original or the 90’s version) Patrick Stewart’s “A Christmas Carol” is also required viewing, as is Bill Murray’s “Scrooged.” I can’t wait!

Definitly would have to be A Christmas Story and the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas. My children love Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, too.

I stick with the basics: So far I’ve watched “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” and “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving”. I plan to watch “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, “A Christmas Story”, and “Home Alone”. I will not watch any made-for-tv Hallmark movies.

We’ve already watched A Year Without a Santa Claus, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Polar Express. We have to watch some holiday movies while decorating for the holidays! My favorite is Santa Claus is Coming to Town. We’ll watch it and Charlie Brown’s Christmas when we get a little closer!

Four Christmases. A really funny movie. Reese Whitherspoon is adorable. the only problem is that they show all the funny stuff on t.v. before the movie even comes out.
